Either is fine. BM leveling hasn't really changed, except for having new toys at earlier levels than you used to.

BM is about the same as always
1. Hunters mark-send pet macro
2. Serpent Sting
3. Kill command
4. (arcane shot)
5. Kill shot
Loot mob... pretty much all you will be doing from level 10 on. Throw in some BW of Rapid Fire later on, but they are not even necessary while questing or leveling. If you aren't chain pulling, you won´t have to worry about the cobra shot thing until you are in dungeons
I would love to hear someones experience with the new demonology. I have a warlock sitting at lvl 9 waiting to decide. I have Affliction already, and Destro looks a lot like a fire mage (which I am also leveling now). The problem with demonology is that the talents look so boring for leveling. It doesnt look like there any talents that even matter for at least 30 or 40 levels. Basically it looks like send in your felguard and then cast whatever you feel like without any real reason. SBs? Corruptions? Immo.. there seems to be no synergies or anything that even plays off each other.

I have tried either. And as the lock, I dont even seem to be able to hold aggro with the felguard. Always end up with mobs peeling off and attacking me, or me waiting between spells to minimize aggro.
Well there's your problem, you're using the felguard. When soloing/questing, you should be using the voidwalker, and in dungeons using the felguard.
Reason why is because they removed the felguard's taunt, so now only the voidwalker has a taunt.

Both a Demonology Warlock (that Felguard is a beast! especially his AoE damage is crazy, no Hunter pet can compete ... but he is a bit squishy, at least compared to tenacity pets) and a BM Hunter are very easy to level. Both are perfect for "casual" leveling.
But since both are at a reasonably high level aready I'd recommend making a completely new character to enjoy the new classic areas. After all pretty much every zone got a major update with Cataclysm and questing in the lower levels is pretty fun now.
A Paladin can level as both ret and prot (prot actually deals some crazy damage in the lower levels and you are pretty much immortal) extremely well, even easier than pet classes I'd say (mine is 50 now and I'm having a way easier time than on my Warlock or Hunter, I started questing as ret but after topping the damage meter in all dungeon runs as tank/prot and noticing that I barely do more damage when switching to ret I just gave it up and I'm questing in the prot spec now).
An Enhancement Shaman it also a very fast and efficient leveler and you even get to have pets (summons on a cooldown - but hey, they are there when you need 'em!).
So if you only want the pet for "easy" leveling I'd say it's simply not worth it, other classes have an even easier time.
Here is another thought:
Level both.
If you are leveling casually you probably don't play that much, right?
My Warlock is 75 right now, my Hunter is 62. I also don't play them that much so I just alternate between them. The huge advantage of that strategy is that both are rested all the time! So I play my Hunter for a few days until his rested bar is gone, then I park the Hunter in a town and go play the Warlock until she isn't rested anymore. Rinse and repeat - the most efficient way to level!
You might want to try that.

Nononono. No way.
The Felguard is the Warlock pet of choice for leveling. You just have to make sure to use one of the most awesome leveling abilities ever,
Felstorm
, as often as possible. With that one active you can AoE aggro a ton of mobs and your Felguard will never ever lose aggro, the damage is just insane.
You get the ability reasonably late and you have to activate it manually so it's a bit of a pain to use but it's totally worth it.
Oh and don't forget
Axe Toss
which is a great utility talent.
Both for holding (AoE) aggro and dealing AoE damage the Felguard is way superior to the Voidwalker and even Hunter pets. Single target aggro should not be an issue and if it is then you have Axe Toss to help out.
The only real downside to the Felguard is that he will die rather quickly with 4-5 mobs hitting him.
The only time I'd recommend using the Voidwalker is when soloing group quests that are for 3 people - for those the Felguard will just die to fast, the additional survivability of the Voidwalker is needed (which I painfully learned a few days ago when I did all those Dragonblight group quests solo on my Warlock).

On Felguard:
I've always had Axe Toss on auto, and Felstorm on manual and have never had issues with aggro by pulling up to 5 mobs.
My FG always rounds them up and holds them like a pro tank.

Hunters are currently the flavor of the month; so go with the Warlock.

Same here, the Felguard (with Felstorm active) will hold aggro just fine.
The only problem is that he will die within seconds if 5 or more Northrend mobs are hitting him. When AoE pulling I can usually barely keep him alive with Health Funnel.
At the OP:
In Cataclysm you will find barely any group quests, soloing capabilities are not really needed anymore. If you just want your first lvl85 char as fast as possible then the choice is obvious: Go with the Hunter, he is lvl 70 already.

Here's a hint: leveling up is mindlessly easy for any class or spec. You don't need to play a pet class to avoid a, what was it, a "clickfest"? (lol)
Oh and I know it can be a real pain to have to, like, pay attention to proc's and stuff while you're grinding out mob #12,732. But don't worry! You won't get involved in any sort of "clickfest" if you don't want to! You can just ignore any proc's or anything that causes variation in your mind-numbing level grind, and you will still do just about as well, because this game is just that easy.
So, pick whatever you find the most fun and don't worry about how hard (lol) it will be to level up. Unfortunately you DO have to, like, click buttons and what not to make your character do stuff. But it will only turn into a "clickfest" if you let it!
Some update from my side: Started a new Demo lock and levelled him to 27 so far.
He is interestng to play, but I am missing a "oh $%^&" spell when felguard loses aggro
Another helpful hint: you don't need an "oh ^&*!" button at level 27. But in case you overlooked several spells in your spellbook: how about use a healthstone? That's more than enough healing to get you through any aggro at level 27. How about use Fear? How about use Drain Life? Hell, just for kicks, burn a soul shard and Drain Life a little bit faster. How about, like, move away while your DoTs tick?
You seem to be under the impression that you're playing a challenging game which requires skill to play prior to end-game raiding. Now I know it can really turn into a "clickfest" when your pet (*gasp*) loses aggro at level 27, but if you can make it through the ensuing "clickfest" with the above tips, you'll be back to your shockingly repetitive grind in no time flat!
