Get a Melee with brains to drive your Demolisher.
Get a CC on 1 side ( prefered to be a Frost mage, or else a lock )
Get a healer on the otherside, and let him spam Cleanse or any dispell.
Demolishers in SotA no longer have passenger seats.

I've given this thread a lot of thought after playing SotA in some very successful pugs. Here is what I have to share.
Offense
:
When you're on the boats before the battle, agree upon which gate your team wants to rush (Green or Blue) and remind everyone to grab seaforium bombs on the docks before grabbing a demolisher. Melee should drive (if you have a choice) and classes able to CC should help clear the path for the demos.
Once you're inside, have a couple team-mates focus on capturing the 2 southern graveyards so you won't have to spawn on the beach and run back inside. Demos shouldn't let up on their move to the next tier of gates. Once you're past the next set of gates, head straight to the yellow gate and DO NOT cap the final graveyard as you would then have to run south to grab more demos wasting precious time. This has the added benefit of forcing the defenders to spawn at that graveyard instead of the courtyard which you are likely attacking just now.
When attacking through the courtyard, note that there are piles of bombs to grab on the eastern side of the courtyard. If your attack has stalled somewhat, grab some bombs to help knock down the relic door.
TL;DR
-- Its all about keeping demos alive so they can knock down gates.
Defense
:
Kill their demolishers above anything else. Run past those HKs and focus the demos. When defending, you should be checking your in-game map constantly whenever you're moving to a location or spawning at a graveyard. Enemy demolishers will show up on your map no matter where they or you are! Use this knowledge wisely and communicate the position of incoming demos to your team. When moving to the beach, make sure each dock has about an equal amount of defenders. Keep in mind that the attackers will likely rush a particular gate, but not always.
It's very important to realize that while keeping the attackers on the beach is possible, if a gate does get knocked down, fall back NOW to attempt to hold the attackers at the next tier. Try to keep the attackers from capturing the east and west graveyards. This will force them to go back inside from the beach wasting valuable time. If the next set of gates falls, move back again and defend the area in front of the yellow gate.
If the yellow gate falls, keep defending that same area to prevent demos from rolling unopposed into the courtyard where it will be very difficult to stop them. Since there are bombs for the attackers in the courtyard, you'll need to have a couple of courtyard/relic door defenders to guard against bomb runners.
TL;DR
-- Kill their demos.
I'm greatly simplifying things and I hope others will add their wisdom and observations but I hope this gives you something to chew on.

Dont do it in the first place. That is my tactic for it.
SoTA and IoC are the worst BGs around.
How to play?
Pray it's over quickly and don't queue for it ever again.
I've got to admit that it wasn't my favorite BG at first, but at least I don't cringe anymore whenever it pops up on random or as the holiday weekend. Taking the time to learn effective strategies has made it a pretty quick and fun BG for me.
