^ seeing this UI in the Post your UI thread gave me an epiphany. On something very deep, the very Kantian metaphysics of User Interfaces ^_^
Teddiursa's unitframes "stand out" quite considerably to my eye at least. Making it obvious they are not part of the game and really more of a control panel for the "person behind the wheel". Many other UIs and unitframes seem on the other hand to merge more with the game environment. I'm sure it is a matter of things like borders, sharp contrast etc.
So which is the way to go? ingame chameleon or RL-peacock?
=)

You ask in a thread where most of us are (former) UI-
designers
, we'll just tell yah: "You play the game, not the UI, so make it small" kinda. Just peek at any of pHish, Ishtara, kamii, Carebear, Krow or my own UI's and you'll see what we think about it

but but but!
I have peaked at all you guys' UIs, but thats not quite what I'm talking about. Minimalism dominates as a design concept indeed (and I love it) but this a deeper question. Actually I think the minimal ones often come out as in sharp contrast to the actual game enviroment, being so pixely, precise and almost sci-fi like in some respects. My idea was more whether the UI itself actually is part of the game world or rather something beyond it, and if any aspects of its design may reinforce this, or the opposite.
sorry for rambling ^_^

Could you post a pic where the UI actually blends into the enviroment?
._.
I'd say it should be in contrast to the rest, as you need to pay attention to it.

well...ok. But again, fellow swede, is the UI and the UI elements:
1. belonging to the toon in the actual ingame world
2. the link between the toon/game world and the flesh and blood player
3. In no way any part of the game world or the toon what so ever (beyond it)
4. All of the above
5. None of the above
6. A seagull

3, 2 or 6 - to me it's an element of something that the game itself can't offer.

What's up guys? Since I don't wanna add to the thread clutter, anyone able to quickly find me an addon that can:
-Announce the use of cooldowns by party and raid members (i.e. a Paladin tank grouped with me uses Divine Protection, and the addon announces its use and when it fades).
-Guild chat announcing is a plus! (although I guess I could tool around to make it do that anyways).
-Also announces the use of my cooldowns, obviously, although this is probably a given.
Edit: Raeli's Spell Announcer does NOT count. I have yet to see it use the spells of other players.
