my pally can throw her
Avenger's Shield
all willy-nilly into the pull and it's smart enough to not hit cc'ed targets. what's the warrior equivalent? ... which aoe or multi-target moves will break cc and which will overlook cc'ed mobs?

i don't know of any that "overlook" CC, except for glyphed sunder, and that's only because sunder doesn't break CC in the first place.
i guess warriors are just considered to be smarter than paladins and not go willy-nilly all over the place when mobs are CC'd :)

Avenger's Shield isn't an AoE, so you can't complain that TC and shockwave work differently. I'd rather complain about paladins having a chaining ranged silence on a 15 sec cooldown with chance for a refresh even now that they are getting a baseline melee interrupt. Our ranged silence requires 2 talent points, is on a 30 sec cooldown (specced), and only affects one target. We used to be better at interrupting/silencing than paladins, now it's the other way around.

i'm not complaining about avengers shield. i have a prot pally, remember? ... i dont want that to change!
btw my prot pally is also
blood elf
. dont have a heart attack.
getting back to original post now:
i am familiar with paladin tanking. i am
not
as familiar with current warrior tanking. with my paladin, i would often have dps do trap/sheep/hex pulls and then i would toss my shield to grab aggro on the remaining 3 non-cc'ed mobs. as a warrior, this doesn't work (i guess he's smart enough to keep the shield firmly strapped to the defending arm... must be why my block was so high at level 85, versus all the gearing and re-forging i had to do to my paladin). so is cc-pulling just a non-option for my warrior?

basically, you can't charge in and aoe tank near CC. i will typically have the CC go first, then i'll either HT-silence a remaining caster, or simply taunt/spell reflect to hold aggro from range. then i just make sure and have enough rage for a TC, and i'll pick up the melee as it charges in towards the CC'ers.

I time my shockwave / Tclap before the cc of selected target, that way i already have threat when/if i break it. But my preferred CC being hex, hex can take some damage before breaking, even a shockwave, so thats no worries. (or i'm just very lucky)
But mages love when i T-clap-rend everything and they're trying to sheep something.
Yeah, i normally break the CC's in my groups, haven't gotten the WotLK-mentality 100% out of my tanking routine yet, will have to work on that. Otherwise a well aimed shockwave (away from cc'd mobs) would be the best way to go. Sheep's break easily, you sheep it next to me i might break it. maybe... probably. pretty sure. Yeah, i will. Oops.. sorry =P
