Ipod is corrupt!

For the title, I was trying to make it sound like a news article. I think I failed.
My ipod is corrupt. It's turned on right now, I can't turn it off, I can't do anything. Even when I turn the lock on it off, the locked icon stays there. It's as if it froze. It won't connect to itunes.
I can see it in my devices and printers thing when I go to it, and it says that it's corrupt. I'm not sure what to do. I can't wipe all the data off of it through the devices an printers menu. The only thing I can do is delete the drivers for it off my computer, and I'm afraid that if I do that I won't be able to access it even through devices and printers.
Anyone have any ideas?
Oh, and now itunes won't open after I closed it because it wasn't responding. Fun.

Take it in to be repaired. You might have gotten a virus on it, or perhaps it's a software problem. Either way, take it into somewhere to be repaired.

Where could I take it? I'm pretty sure it's a software problem, because it's an ipod 3rd generation. (The little fat one)
I'd rather try some home fixes first efore I take it to be repaired, because I got it on ebay and I don't have much money to pay someone to fix it.

Radio Shack probably, if there's one in your area.
Otherwise, I wouldn't attempt a home repair unless you're completely sure you know the problem.

I don't have one, so I have no idea.

You can also take it to an Apple store...
There are apple stores? O.o
Edit: Apparently I live in the middle of bum&*!@ nowhere.
Edit#2: By home fix, I just meant format it. Problem is, all of the formatting instructions I can find require ITUNES to recognize it.

Just did hard reset. Thanks to everyone who responded.
Executorvgk, I tried doing what you said, and it didn't work. I though tyou might have told me the wrong commands for the generation Ipod I have, so I googled hidden commands, and I was right :D So thanks to you especially!

I was just in the process of making a new Tinfoil Hat when clicking on this thread. I am now disappointed.

I made it sound like that on purpose. I feed off of disappointment. FFXIV fed me well.
