Hey everyone. Welcome to another 'what should I get next'-topic. My guild is about to start raiding and in order to show up as well-prepared as possible, I'm currently reviewing my gear, enchants and gems to make sure that I can bring my A-game.
Armory profileProfiler linkI realise that I haven't got the best possible gems and enchants applied in every slot, mostly because some of them were either not yet available or way too expensive to justify buying. However, I am aware that for SV, the following basic rule applies..
Hit > AGI > Crit > Haste > Mastery
.. and I've been trying to gem and enchant accordingly.
Please correct me on any mistakes I made with the gemming/enchanting/reforging. This is the first time I've come this far with my Hunter, because she was my alt throughout WotLK and I never got around to raiding with her.
Now for the real question. I'm sitting on ~2000 valor points at the moment, meaning that I'll soon be able to afford my first piece of T11. This has got me thinking what I should buy next. I know that the
legs and
gloves can drop in Baradin Hold, but the odds are astronomical. However, I could decide to get those last and focus on the other pieces first. The
headguard and
shoulders drop from the raids themselves, so that leaves only the
chestpiece.
So that just leaves the chestpiece. I booted up Rawr4 and checked what that upgrade would do for me, and it showed up as a flat DPS loss. I then checked the comments on the chestpiece here on Wowhead and the consensus seems to be that the chestpiece is in fact the only piece of T11 not worth getting.
I'm quite confused now. Should I go for another piece of T11 in the meantime, should I just keep saving up my Valor Points or should I use them to buy one of the non-tier 359 epics? I remember at the start of 3.3 that all hunters went for the cloak first before they got started on T10, but I don't know what the raiders are doing at the moment.
So yeah, any constructive criticism is very appreciated, as are helpful thoughts. Thanks in advance!

I have a few concerns about your gear selection, gemming and enchanting. It all depends on how in-depth you want us to go and what style of raiding you'll be doing. If your guild is fairly casual and you're not really into min/max'ing all that much, I can probably withhold a lot of what I would say. If you want to hear all that, I can peck out a longish response.
As to your questions about T11, my answer would be to skip it completely for now. The hit trinket from Valor Points is superb. The cloak is also fairly decent. The boots are also an upgrade over the Hyjal rep boots.
The tier 11 bonuses are simply not really that good. It's part of the reason why
Kripparrian, whom many consider to be in the discussion for best PvE hunter in the world, has completely ignored T11 and instead went with the epic PvP gear. Agility is SO much better than everything else and the set bonuses are SO lackluster that you're better off ignoring it for now.
TL;DR: Use your Valor points for other things right now, particularly the trinket. This will allow you to reforge some hit off gear in favor of more crit/mastery.
EDIT: I should point out now before the inevitable comments...yes, Kripp is just one hunter. There are many, many other top hunters worldwide doing a plethora of different things. The reason I brought him up was to prove a point that the simulators seem to be agreeing with right now: agility is so much better than everything else that it doesn't matter how you get to the most agility possible. There are certainly competing views on the matter.
EDIT 2: Things you can do right now to improve your DPS:
- Switch cloak enchant to +22 agil
- Switch glove enchant to +20 agil
- Get a leg armor
- Slightly rethink your stat weightings. Haste is generally considered superior to Mastery until you reach 1.66 seconds on Cobra Shot. Then, mastery overtakes haste. However...there are some pretty wonky haste things that cause the value of haste to dramatically rise/fall past that point.
- The Chaotic meta gem is probably not worth using right now due to the loss of Agility. However, if you want to use that style of meta even with the more blue>red, use the old Wrath Relentless one.
