IIRC, the game won't let you need on cloth gear, but caster jewellery is completely cool. You should be looking for gear with Int, Spirit/Hit (since you have a fairly low tier talent that converts spirit to hit at a 1:1 ratio), Haste, then Crit. There is also an assortment of caster leather from quest rewards, since Blizz has done a reasonably good job of revamping gear.
On a related note, it has been my experience from 1-85 that leveling as feral is faster and more efficient than balance, but balance is completely doable, just takes longer. I am also more likely to survive an accidental multimob pull in feral (even with worse gear) than I am in balance, but that could simply be that I've got a lot more experience with feral. YMMV.
(Captcha was efficiency, which was cool, cause I wasn't sure if I'd spelled efficient correctly earlier. Thanks, Captcha!)

take all the cloth you can if it's an upgrade. once you hit 50 and get leather spec. then start aiming to get all leather, but i'd still take cloth > leather if it is a big upgrade..the 5% int is nice but mainly for min/maxing at 85 and wont be game breaking if you lvl with out it

I'd take full advantage of dual spec: You can heal perfectly well in balance gear, and get much shorter queues. Healing's gotten a lot more interesting at low levels too.
That aside: I agree with what's been said. Need on anything that's an upgrade. Once you get to Outland, you'll find a lot more caster leather, and still more in Northrend.
