I was curious today what the new rate was for level 85. At level 80 someone discovered it was QuestXP*6 = Gold (in copper) at level 80, but at 85 I noticed that number did not work.
Abbreviations
g - gold
s - silver
c - copper
xp - experience point
Quest rewards from Twilight Highlands (level 84-85 quests)
6,940xp -> 1g65s50c
13,800xp -> 3g29s00c
17,350xp -> 4g14s50c
27,600xp -> 6g57s50c
34,700xp -> 8g27s00c
41,400xp -> 9g86s00c
55,400xp -> 13g15s50c
69,400xp -> 16g54s00c
86,750xp -> 20g67s00c
First, I tried out the level 80 quest conversion: 1xp = 6c
6,940xp * 6c = 41640 = 4g16s40c
6,940xp -> 4g16s40c (expected)
6,940xp -> 1g65s50c (actual)
The actual gold was much smaller than I expected, so I did a little algebra to get the new number.
Level 85 quest xp conversion:
6,940xp * C = 1g65s40c
C = 1g65s40c / 6,940xp
C = 16540 / 6940
C = 2.383285303 -> 1xp = 2.383285303c
This isn't a nice, easy to remember number, but it appears to match with the quest rewards above. I have no idea how Blizzard chose such a complicated number. If I was choosing a number, I would have cut it down to 2.38 or even 2.4.

Not a bad analysis.
Note that chances are, it's probably 2.38c, rounded up to the nearest 50c. So it would be 1g 65s 17c, but because it's a stupid number, they use 1g 65s 50c. (rounded up to the nearest 50c)

There was a little discussion about this in another topic but I also noticed that Blizz doesn't convert xp to gold any more at max level, or at least not in every zone. I tested this on an 85 I had, who wasn't done questing in Vashj'ir along with a level 81 that was still questing there.
I am guessing that because you can now gain XP by doing professions (such as Archaeology) they had to make sure the money in the game did not become overwhelming. With multiple people get to mid-83 and even 84 just off of Archaeology, the gold in the economy would become overwhelming once 85's did all of the 80+ quests.
Just thought this might factor into the calculation for gold per quest as well.

i think its becasue we get more xp in cata so it should be about the same.
ex: you would get 100 xp in wrath so 100x6=600
but in cata you would get more xp 250xp x 2.4 = 600
so it would come out about the same but of corse i made up the xp gains so you would have to test it.
