Yep, I leveled from 80 to 81.5 solely from Archaeology and the cooking/fishing dailies.

Its very good exp. It even helps surport the theroy that you can level from 1-85 without killed 1 single mob.

Well, that's already been done. But it would make it easier!

Actually I have leveled my toon from 80-83 only with help of Archeology and the Cooking/Fishing daily.
Im now maxed in Archeology and quite a bit into lvl84.

On my mage, over 80% of my experience from 80 to 85 was from Archaeology.
I took "breaks" from it with 5 dungeon runs, a little questing and some dailies, but overall, it was survey-survey-survey.
The only drawback to this is that you won't have the gear necessary to get into dungeons, so you'll end up questing in the zones anyway to gear up to do dungeons.

But those quests will reward tons of money instead of the exp others get.

True. And if your Archeology toons happens to be an alt. And you can get gear crafted then the more the marrier. From what i have seen each quest gives around 12-18g per turn-in. And the Cat. zones have 100+ for the Ach. Well you can do the math.

Armory -> Annakerie
You'll see that I leveled from 80 - 85 on archeology alone. I'm a glutton for punishment, and don't have that damn trinket or the damned alchemy recipe, but I have an 85...

It'd be nice, though, if the exp-to-gold conversion at the level cap still worked.
At 85, getting the same 7g80s for quests in Hyjal that my 80 gets is kinda stinky.

I saw the same thing. I guess by adding XP to skills they figured they couldn't overload the economy with too much money so they had to remove the conversion.
It would be nice though. :)

maybe not the best way to level as many writes. one loose gold, rewards and not to forget reputation.
but it is a quite good way as a dps alt. i do this when at work while standing in dungeon queue. very relaxing way to play.
we'll see how long i will be able to keep it up though =)

I have actually seen alot of people do this. I myself am giving it a go. I started around 59 and am now 66. only a few quests in outlands and a few norms to get some tank gear. I also find it to be a good money maker as well. I started a DK an only had about 15g after I got out of the starter area. have about 700g now by selling the keystones. id assume if you took it from 60-85 purly this way you could make it. Id suggest pvping and queing for instances as well but it is doaable.

@DrShadow, thank you for pointing this out. I was just thinking about how I don't really want to run through Outlands on the new goblin I am leveling (nothing really against BC, I've just run it so very many times). I figured Archaeology would be the way to do it and now I see that it can be done.
I can probably craft a few items on other alts to keep my gear decent enough to queue for instances. Once I hit Northrend the questing greens will be enough for me to stay up with the curve as well.

This is only true if you're completely broke (in which case you really shouldn't be wasting your time with archaeology!), or don't have access to the right trade skills. Here's my healer:
http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/darkmoon-faire/jibbler/simple
Hasn't touched a single Cata quest yet (I've seen everything there is to in the new zones on 2 toons already, have no real desire to do all that again*), has gotten all XP from archaeology so far, always when blue XP, and I'm sure you wouldn't say no to someone healing in that sort of gear on an 82 whilst in levelling dungeons.
Most of the BoE gear was paid for by the free money from alchemy, and that ties in nicely with the elemental transmute - travelling to specific zones to proc a certain element for max profit...well, that isn't wasted time if you're doing all the flying around you have to for archeology anyway!
It's definitely a rich alt's luxury way to level though - in addition to having to buy/craft gear you really want to have the fastest flying as well, just to maintain some sort of sanity.
*I'll probably have to run the Twilight quests for some pre-heroic gear when I get there, but that can wait!
