This week's combination:
Slate Dragon - Storm Rider - Whelps
Been a lot of discussion and confusion about which dragon to kill first, how to handle whelps, etc. Any tips you can throw my way that may make this week go along more smoothly? And if you have had this combination and overcome it, maybe share your logic as for how and why you did x instead of y.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Our group has the same combo this week. We haven't downed him yet, but we got pretty close, and here's the strategy we used:
1. Release the Storm Rider. One tank takes a love tap from the boss to get the healing debuff on him, the other tank immediately taunts the boss off of the pulling tank. Getting the storm rider first allows for interrupts to hit the boss's AOE 30k damage blast so that healer mana doesn't go into the crapper. As soon as the mortal strike debuff dropped off, tanks would swap the boss and the drake, although in hindsight it might be better for the tank with the MS debuff to hold off on that taunt until a couple stacks had built up on the tank holding the boss, to make things easier on the healers.
2. Slate Dragon was next. The mortal strike issue never goes away, but now the boss is getting stunned on a regular basis. This is awesome. Stacks of Mortal Strike build up much more slowly, so both tanks stop taking so much damage.
3. Whelps are last. They get AoEd down, and then you focus fire the boss.
We tried pulling two drakes at once, but the damage between the mortal strike debuff and getting pounded on constantly by both the boss and a drake or two drakes was just too much for the healers to keep up with.

I'd recommend freeing both storm rider and whelps at the same time, right at the start. Getting the interrupts manageable and the AoE down takes the sting right out of this fight, while malevolent strikes can be circumvented by tank switching. Have your better geared tank on Halfus, worse geared on the drake and have them both work on picking up whelps (about half and half is ideal). Once the Halfus tank hits 7 stacks, have them switch, the tank now on the drake is going to take a beating, they need to rotate cooldowns to make things easier for the healers, and the healers shouldn't be afraid to really push their mana low, as the latter phases of this fight need very, very little healing by comparison. Assuming you survive this (the drake and whelps should be down before the OT reaches 7 stacks - it's a good indication your DPS aren't good enough if this isn't the case, and your healers will likely oom), break out slate, nuke him down then finally get on Halfus, assuming you have the time left to beat the enrage he's pretty much a free kill as soon as storm rider dies.

So much what Timmeh says. Once the two aoes are either weakened or reliably interrupted, and the tanks aren't tanking anything but Halfus, the fight is a complete joke right up until the furious howls start. Bring bring the rider and the whelps out to reduce the aoe as much as possible, kill them right away with healers burning through their mana and tanks their CDs, then recover once you've downed everything.
