How about a macro announcing that you are about to cast it?
"Casting healing rain, get wet or avoid it and die", or something like that, that peeps know you are casting it.
Or maybe the graphics need to be changed. But for now,...the macro? Just a suggestion.

I'm enhance and if we are in a fuster cluck I usually use my maelstrom weapon to use healing rain to help out the healer, but almost every time, even when we have been standing still for a minute or so, people just walk out of it. Just kind of annoying that I try to use something, that instead could have been used for 10k more damage, to heal and have it wasted.

II keep seeing responses in my groups that basically run something like this: Shaman/Priest/Druid: "Why'd you get out of the yellow/green/blue circle?" other people: "Cause I'm not supposed to stand in fire."
Education is your best hope, unfortunately

I think making it look more like rain would have the opposite effect. If people see *something* falling from the sky, they typically run away from it.
With your graphics turned up it looks pretty great now. The druid AOE heal looks about as safe and friendly as an AOE heal could, but I'm glad ours looks much different. As others have said, it'll just take education.
