Thanks for the help on this....now just one more question....is this add-on only for NPC's that are considered "rare" ? For example, I tried to use it to find a common critter in Uldar and also the king(just to test it out) and neither time the NPCScan didn't go off?

_NPCScan tracks seldom-seen rare mobs by proximity alone, making the old “/targetexact …” macros obsolete. It has the same range as those targeting macros, but you won't have to mash any buttons. Just go about your business and let _NPCScan alert you when it finds something.

I just had my NPC Scan go off for Aeonaxx (code:50062) on Cenarion Circle server at around 3 am server time but the strange thing was, I was nowhere near any of the spawn locations! I was logged in with my hunter and camping in the cave where Jadefang spawns. That cave is up at the northeast corner of Deepholm, way beyond the effective detection range of NPC Scan, so I'm wondering what's going on?
I have both of Aeonaxx's NPC Scan ID's added and I immediately confirmed that it was code 50062 that triggered the alarm and not code 51236 (tagged Aeonaxx).
Has anyone else experienced false alarms like this?

I don't really know much about Aeonaxx, but doesn't his "catching" involve a flight on his back? The path may be random, or have a large deviation from his idle route, so a player fighting him might've come close.
An even easier explanation: he has a very large "sight" range, he can be targetted from very far away (similar to Putridus in Icecrown)

NPC Scan can sometimes be a little buggy. I've had NPC Scan go off for
Mobus
(located in Vashj'ir) while I was sitting in Stormwind City. I've had a few other scenarios where NPC Scan popped up for an NPC that was in a completely different zone that were I was.
Although for your scenario, Nathany

l's answer could be the case.

Yeah Mobus is another example of a mob with a laaarge visibility range, he can be targetted at least from Stormwind Harbor ;) (boo Alliance favoritism!)

I've had Mobus pop while farming Twilight Jasmine out in the Highlands. Ridiculously large target window..
