Cata bringing back Hard Core players?

It's not like that at all...
The "free" gear (that you still have to farm for) is older content. Top tier raid gear has to be raided for. If we're turning this into "Blizzard made raiding too easy!" then yes, they did make overall raiding easier. They made general raiding easier for more people to see the content they've spent so much time and effort on, something I think they explicitly said they wanted to do after Sunwell Plateau.
Actually...come to think of it, I don't think I've heard Paragon, Ensidia, or any other top ranked guild complaining about the game catering to casuals. Just mostly anonymous people on forums.

Top ranked guilds get paid to play a game. Why complain?

people are saying on this thread how "hardcore" players will leave the game because it has gotten so much easier..yet WoW has reached 12 million subscribers world wide. it seems to me like the fan vase is steadily growing and the current "hardcore" gamers will be replaced. It's obviously time for a new Generation O f WoWers so either suck it up and adapt to the game or quit..it's that simple...I do however think cata will bring back people for a time, just to check the game out, however, as with Wrath some people are going to be disappointed and stop playing. It's the circle of MMO life.

I'm glad you can read more than a sentence. Oh wait..

It is like that, and I don't see how you can argue that it isn't. He may still work in the mailroom (ie. not have the BEST of the BEST) but he still reaps the rewards (semi-outdated but enough gear that he would be taken in a LK fight.) Thus the circle of upset people that are interested in the progression of the game is complete.

What I'm getting from a significant portion of the thread is "QQ, casuals are getting things I earned months ago!" The reward should be the achievement and the date you got it, not the shiny purpz you're wearing. Seriously, too many people at level cap seem to be all about the gear, the ME. This is a social game, so how about some more focus on the WE?
All I wanted to do in this expansion was down the Lich King. I did that just a couple weeks ago, Chill of the Throne debuffless and all the goodness that pisses off hardcore players that came with that. I'm a min-maxing casual and as long as my guild and I can achieve our goals, that's all I really care about. Am I a little ashamed that it took us so long? No, and I don't believe hardcore players have any right to complain about how we accomplished it either. Hardcore players beat HM LK-25 over half a year before we got it on normal 10-man, and that's their claim to fame. That's their incentive for dedicating their lives to the game and doing it well. Our incentive was the sense of teamwork and accomplishment the achievement gave us.
Sure, it wasn't much of an achievement in other people's eyes, but we couldn't give two &*!@s less what other people think. We met our goal. As casuals.

You beat it. You deserve it. Quit harboring ill feelings towards those that did it much faster than you.

Hi pot, this is kettle. Quit harboring ill feelings toward those that eventually did it (and got the gear from it), and thus stole some of the hard core's 'uniqueness'.

My problem isn't with casuals who get it, if you read my first post. Its that the raids are dumbed down so that any idiot with time on his hands can eventually achieve the same things as those that took the time to learn their class and game/raid mechanics.
If it doesn't bother you that people who make others work harder to win because they're lazy still get stuff, then I don't know what to tell you.

So everyone except for the (roughly) 97% of players are idiots then?
After all, Blizzard stated that only roughly 3% of the total audience saw Sunwell to completion at level. Can you really blame them that they wasted a ton of resources on content that only 3% of their playerbase actually saw?
Around 43% have downed LK 10-man as of October. 13% have downed him in 25-man. I don't have percentages on hard modes, but it's much lower.

It doesn't bother me, because in this case, their achievements don't lessen my own in any way. I'm not competing with them - I'm competing against the game. Which is why the corporate analogy is invalid; in that instance, I've lost something (my income was reduced), but here, I've lost
nothing
.
It appears that what you're really upset about is that your achievements (gear, downing of bosses, etc.) have lost some of their 'uniqueness'; since that's not what I play for, I don't agree with your sentiment.

It's the fact that no matter how much you commit yourself to being good at something in WoW, it means absolutely nothing within three months because any casual will be doing the same thing using two buttons.
First, you're exaggerating the situation. If the Lich King could be downed "using two buttons" then far more than 43% of the population would have done so already.
Second, you're blaming the casual player and Blizzard's game design for a decrease in value that is wholly internal. The fact that others can come along later and experience the same content you did does not, in any objective way, lessen the value of your Kingslayer title, nor does it decrease the stats on your gear.
You're attempting to obscure the true basis of your argument: You're upset that your access to the content has lost some exclusivity. Otherwise, you'd be able to show (in some more tangible fashion) how your achievements and gear are weakened by the fact that they are more widely available.
This is why your corporate analogy is inaccurate; you incorrectly claim that the top end person's salary is being decreased, but it's not. An accurate analogy would be that someone who worked hard to become a vice president feels slighted because they change the job titles of others in middle management to include 'vice president' as well.

Gear is quite important. It's the only main to improve a character. Especially for the ones facing challenges to improve their skills.

Let me break it down for you. I don't like idiots. The fact that they're the ones complaining the content is too hard and ruining it for so-called casual players (because they use that excuse as a reason to get it dumbed down) thus "casual players" getting blamed for the lack of difficulty in the game.
It's not about achievements, it's not about loot. It's about people getting away with playing stupid because now, they can. I hate that.
