Speccing into Guarded by Light will massively increase your aoe threat and mitigation.
I wouldn't say massively, sure if it was a 15-20k, but it is only 6-8k. It'll absorb almost half a a single boss hit if you're lucky... that is far from massive.
I already mentioned most of the reasons I wouldn't consider it mandatory, but if I start having AoE threat problems I may pick it up since you are right it'll pull more threat than HW or Conc. Using it for trash / heroics isn't something I considered at 80 I suppose.

How does Guarded by the Light increase AoE threat? Are we using 1 Holy Power Word of Glory?

I suppose if you're focusing purely on the AoE portion, you would use Word of Glory instead of Shield of the Righteous in large AoE packs? (With that talent, Word of Glory will give Holy Shield.)

For AoE threat it would be a 6k heal + RF threat buff for every mob in the pack rather than 6k damage to a single target.

Anyway I did look at
PotI
and it say
Casting
. I think it is for holy light, flash of light, and etc for casting bar only. I did try that for WoG and it didn't effect because of it is instant spell.
I did notice the amount of heal from WoG by how much holy power to consume. So 1HP did 2-4k, 2HP did 5-7k, and 3HP did 8-10k that heal to me. I just dunno why did they put tank to be healtank.
Anyway so this
Build
is the final goal for lvl 85 tank raid with the rotation that i did posted on
Page 2
. Why I don't need Reckoning because it for slow weapon and I only use fast weapon that I had that on MH.

With GbtL WoG does 8-10k for me... Which is more than I gave it credit for honestly... IIRC Healing / Shields generate .5 threat per point. Also per the latest threat buff I can find RF increases our threat by 200%.
So you are looking at an average of 9k threat on EVERY target you are in combat with, rather than say 12k threat on a single target from SotR. If you are having AoE threat problems, then it will definitely help.
At 80, I personally still think there are better places to spend points. But I have only run a handful of dungeons with / without it, I didn't have problems without it so that is why my opinion hasn't changed. It just seems wasted, gimmicky, or like speccing for trash IMO. Sure it's fun to see those big heals, helpful for solo, or funny to do a third of the healing in a 5 man , but personally I find more utility in EfaE / IJ than GbtL. If content were harder I would place much more value on having it as an easy defensive CD. Even if healer mana mattered at 80 I would place more value on it. But currently, it's just kinda a tossup.

I can't say with 100% certainty one way or the other. The 200% buff from RF may mean 200% of normal threat or 200% extra. IE 2x or 3x, I'm not sure.
With many people saying that WoG is a big threat boost I assumed healing threat was applied full force to all targets. But like I mentioned, I didn't notice a big big change with or without it, I would probably need to to do some solo testing, or with a healer friend to find out.
I could very well be wrong and it is split between all targets, meaning the the "massive" boost to AoE threat some people have mentioned is all in their heads. To some degree it wouldn't surprise me, but I haven't done methodical enough testing to say one way or another. I just wanted to point out that if it works they way they are implying it would be a decent boost.

HotR hits for a couple hundred points less than CS for me personally. Since RF now affects all threat it comes out slightly behind for me. Maybe at some point because of TbtL the holy component grows strong enough to overtake the difference in weapon damage, but in my gear I don't have enough strength.

Blizz has stated many times that they want CS for single target, and HotR for multi target. If HotR hits for more single target than CS, I would bet that Blizz will change it (hopefully by buffing CS, and NOT nerfing HotR).
Actually, after getting my tier10 2-set buff (20% extra damage to HotR), I have stopped using CS. I attempted some minor testing on a training dummy, and was doing 3275 dps after a couple of minutes using CS, and 3269 dps using HotR. The difference is so slim I don't feel CS deserves to be on the action bar. This was only a couple of minutes though, so the RNG might have been better for HotR than it was for CS.
This isn't real theorycrafting. I haven't done enough testing to prove ANYTHING, but I just feel that the difference right now with my tier bonus is too little to make a difference, and since real action heavily affects the total damage, and we always find plenty of AoE situations, the total dps after a dungeon will, for me, not result in more than a 1% percantage difference at most.
One thing, however, I am concerned about as of right now, is Ardent Defender. The 20 % damage reduction is not good enough with a 3 minute cooldown, and so far, I have been killed in 3 different situations, when the heal SHOULD have kicked in, but didn't.
1. Devourer of Souls hit me with Phantom Blast, and the healer was trying to save himself from a bunch of souls trying to kill him. I was dropping quickly, and when I saw the healer wouldn't be healing me, and I was dropping below 10 k, I hit Ardent Defender. The blast hit me, and I dropped. No heal at all.
2. AV, just killed some rogue, had about 13k hp left, and an elemental shaman appears. I instantly hit my mouse botton assigned to Ardent Defender, as their Earth shocks have become insane after the patch, but guess what? Earth shock hits me for 16 k damage, and I drop dead. No heal.
3. Spell Flingers, Ahn'kahat. Healer busy healing poisons, when a hunter aggros an additional group. I get hit by one Shadow Blast, and tap Ardent Defender to prevent me from getting killed by the next. Still drops dead, with no heal.
I have yet to see it heal me. The combat log doesn't say I get any heal, but after dying, it states that my Ardent Defender buff fades. For now, I'm removing it, but maybe i'll spec into again later when it gets fixed, and hopefully buffed a bit. I find it sad what they did to Ardent Defender. Probably the worst 31-point talent out there atm, and not worth even that single point in my opinion.
