Wow probably is declining as everyone has suspected...

...in the US market, but it continues to grow worldwide in the Asian and other markets to compensate.
Has there ever been any data on this? Blizzard only talks about worldwide subscribers but that could be deceptive to US players like myself.

Does it truly matter? What's good for the worldwide market of the game is good for the US market of the game.

Every subscription based games gets spikes of canceled accounts. There hasnt been much to do for some time now either, once the new patch goes live probably next tuesday a influx of people will come back to get alts geared in t10, farm JP on mains etc...and of course come Dec 7th the servers will be smashed with all returning and new players

Because so long as the game is successful, it will continue to run.

It matters because the size of the community helps foster support and legitimacy in the continued support of the games players.
No offense to anyone but I don't really care about chinese or europeans playing the game, that doesn't make me feel better about myself as an american spending hours of my life here.
Mentally I feel like if more people are doing it, it makes it ok. So I need to know if US subscription is at an all time high or has in fact reached the top o the bubble and is declining. Of course Blizzard would never divulge that information.

Meh, Murrdurr is the most correct response, this is the end of expansion lull. I assume it happened pre-TBC, and I know it happened pre-Wrath.

Twelve million is more than enough, right?

And I guess they'll even get more subscribers (new and old ones) when Cataclysm comes out.

thats worldwide Hayzee, OP stated he is concerned about US subs. Theres really nothing to worry about, however I do believe theres too many servers and some could be merged together. Hopefully the little rumor I heard about more servers coming with Cata release is false because some servers are ghost towns depending on what side youre on.

A lot of people play for the community.
By the sounds of things, it's not so much the community, but that he's looking for justification in the form of many other people playing.

Prophets of doom have reported WoW's death for years now.
I'll believe it when Blizzard shuts the servers down and closes customer service on this game.
Death? Not for over a decade. Terminal decline? Quite likely.
They've definitely made dramatic cutbacks in customer service, which speaks volumes about their long-term commitment to the game.
Yeah but did they ever say why the cut back customer service? I can only imagine the amount of useless calls and emails they get out weighing the ones that need attention, and when it comes to getting accounts and items back it seems the average wait time for most is as little as a day to a few days which honestly isnt that bad. I waited a week back in the day to get my everquest account back and they peaked at a little over a million subs when it was at its prime and that game is going on its 17th xpac

I refuse to be some freak who spends hours of my life playing a game just because I enjoy it.
Sure I do enjoy it but I want to play because "its ok, millions of other AMERICANS play it too."
^That's the only statistic I care about, US subscribers, not worldwide. Which brings us back to the point of starting this discussion, and I'm sure some other US players can relate.

You know that if you want to get rid of the stigma attached to playing video games, you have to get over this kind of thing, right?
