I refuse to be some freak who spends hours of my life playing a game just because I enjoy it.
Sure I do enjoy it but I want to play because "its ok, millions of other AMERICANS play it too."
^That's the only statistic I care about, US subscribers, not worldwide. Which brings us back to the point of starting this discussion, and I'm sure some other US players can relate.
lol wow

It couldn't possibly be the larger number of people they have to deal with.
Do you have evidence to this effect?
Other than the fact that total population went from a couple million back in vanilla to the 12 million they have now?
"In TBC and vanilla customer service was substantially better than it is now. GMs were generally better-humored, more helpful, and responded to tickets more quickly. This is my impression and it is one many players share." That's called an opinion, sir.
Your basis of fact is your personal perception of GM "cheeriness" and "Excessive Ticket Volume" notification. Your conclusion came in a statement of fact: "They've definitely made dramatic cutbacks in customer service, which speaks volumes about their long-term commitment to the game."
They have NOT
definitely
made dramatic cutbacks in customer service. Your perceived decline in CS does NOT speak volumes about their long-term commitment. WoW makes Blizz a metric @#$%-ton of money, how could you possibly conclude they are not committed to this product?

You know, despite anecdotes stating otherwise, and despite the "High Volume" indicator, I've rarely had to wait particularly long for my ticket to be seen to. GMs are always great as well.

A couple of my best friends in-game in TBC were Aussies and Kiwis. I'm not xenophobic. As long as there are people I enjoy playing the game with playing it, I will continue. Even if they are outside the USA.

GM ticket response time to my tickets determines the health of WoW.

Does it truly matter? What's good for the worldwide market of the game is good for the US market of the game.
Not if the subscription rates are dramatically different. I heard once that the subscription rates in China were markedly lower than the U.S....possibly forced by the communist government.
Anyone know about that?

I kind of agree because I know what you mean, but disagree too, due to regional differences... a strong playerbase in the east is not necessarily a strong move in the west. Look at Aion or Lineage, very different styles of gaming.
I know that doesn't
quite
apply to WoW so it's not the same, but doesn't quite dictate overall health of the game either.

Hm..... lets see, Runescape is still up and running. I don't see WoW ever dying as long as that thing continues to power on.
Also OP: Fear me! For I am Canadian and play on your US Servers! OOOOOO better run, or else you'll be infected... oh no wait, that's the other way around: We need to stay away from your stupidity and keep it from spreading.
