yeah i can see having high avoidance may gimp your vengeance buff a bit...is there any ICD that prevents it from stacking quicker? or is it just avoidance that's gimpin it?
so we want avoidance for more RS procs...but we want HP for bigger self heals, life-shield, and vengeance. hmm which one do you think we're gonna lean towards again?

If we are going to be avoiding avoidence (hehe) in favor of health I can see many cata builds leaving out bone shield considering it only works well if you have lots of avoidence.

errr no build will have a decent rotation. the only spec that has even a glimpse of a rotation is blood and that's becoming the tanking spec.
the only nice thing about unholy atm is Festering Strike. With Disease duration increasing to 30seconds, and epidemic increasing to 15seconds. you now have a 45sec disease as unholy. Festering Strike will increase that to around 1.5-2min by the time it actually falls off. So atleast you don't have to pay attention to diseases. But you will have to watch Runic Empowerment procs, Ghoul Frenzy, and your sudden doom procs. So imo unholy's difficulty level will increase when cata comes out. Not to the extent of Frost of course...but unholy will still have procs that need watching.

There's some reports that DnD is doing a ton of damage after that last beta patch (for unholy).
Also, alcotraz have you been tanking much? if so i was wondering how long the vengeance buff duration was and if it was possible to chain pull and keep the buff going.
I'm assuming when your not overgearing the content it'll be hard to do that, but that atleast gives me some hope for aoeing large pulls when we've got full T12 and outgear everything again. I can imagine a fully stacked vengeance buff and dropping DnD o.O

So i wanted to post this earlier, but having issues with my computor at work >_> Anyway these aren't changes but just some blue post that give us some interesting insight into the DKs development.
Pestilence
We're starting to think that the ship has just sailed on Pestilence. As I said, our original intent was that Blood Boil be the main AE attack, but now we're considering making Blood Boil more for tanking, letting Frost use Howling Blast and letting Unholy use Pestilence, because, you know, diseases.
That is a really great idea. Have you given any thought as to how you would implement it? Like would Unholy be the only spec that could spread full strenght diseases?
Something like that. Full strength might be too powerful, but we'll see. Unholy still has a few too many talents like Improved Icy Touch and Corrupting Strikes, so this might be a good replacement (though likely deeper than those two examples).
I've been contemplating the idea of spec specific aoe abilities. Even though it'd probably work pretty well. I think the best option would be to change DnD from an unholy rune to somewhere along the lines of 40-50 RP. The reason being is that currently we don't have very many aoe choices to begin with. Changing DnD to RP cost would fix multiple issues. 1) The current rune cost, though lower then Live's 3 rune cost, is still hard to deal with in the new rune system. Except for maybe Frost. 2) The unholy rune cost creates and oddity in what to do with your left over Frost rune. 3) The lack of an AoE ability that cost RP...our current RP based abilities is sadly lacking, considering how much more we'll be using RP in cata compared to Live. It's only logical that we get an RP based aoe ability to compensate the change. There's no need to create a new ability. Just change our current and most universal one. Also, this would fit in their design goals. You wouldn't be able to just run up to the next pull and drop DnD. No you'd have to use your runes up to build up some RP to drop Dnd.
Dark Simulacrum
There' still some polish needed on Dark Simulacrum. We are going to try and let it affect everything we possibly can, but there have to be some limitations. Copying pets and the like is just something we can't handle really well. We also need to make sure that some effects have a duration. It's probably okay to copy Shadowform, but Shadowform itself has no duration and the DK version needs to.
Honestly, i'm not sure i like this at all. Granted their still in testing stages so i'm sure they just want to try out the ability to see what it can do and the repercussions of allowing it to do so. If you use your imagination i'm sure everyone here can come up with some crazy ways to make use of this if you could copy any ability that consumed mana. If shadowform is an example, then what's to stop us from copying spells like Divine Shield, EarthShield, Molten Armor, the list of possible PvP repercussions is endless. PvE would also be an oddity all in itself. Consider, contemplates the idea of dueling before a Raid encounter specifically for a DK to get a buff like
shadowform
15% shadow dmg and 15% reduced damage. Let's also assume the 30% reduction is now gone. For an Unholy spec 15% shadow dmg would be ridiculous...for a Tank 15% reduced damage would also be an insane buff to get. So honestly even though the idea sounds awesome i think the repercussions would be so great that it would get hit by the nerf bat rather quick once the complaints came rolling in. I'd rather have something that's interesting but isn't OP. Then an OP ability get nerfed into the ground within the first month of the game.

DS buffs would prolly just last less than 10 sec or so.

This will only work in PvP btw, you won't be able to apply Dark Sim to a Party Member in a Raid or anything.
Well they originally said the ability wouldn't even be allowable in PvP, but they changed that. Also, if the buff was long enough and powerful enough for a progression guild to even consider it. Being out of the raid and getting summoned back in is not difficult. I am hoping the buff is short around 20 seconds. Mainly so that copying self buffs will be pointless. I like the idea of the spell....it's on a completely different level of any other ability in the game. I just have too many memories of ability exploits. I don't know how many of you have been playing since the beginning but i'm sure you know what i mean.
As far as my comments on Dsim i should have linked Considers Blog. He thinks the sweet spot to self buff copying would be around 30sec-1min. So my comments kind of tangented from that. Unfortunately i failed to mention that >_>

With the changes to Unholy in this round, I was wondering if Festering Strike worked with Ebon Plaguebringer yet. Maybe I missed it but I still haven't seen anything to that end. Does anyone know if it does?

The tooltips don't state that it does. My question is whether or not the tooltips are out of date, and it does in the beta; I know the idea that a Blizzard tooltip could be incorrect is STUNNING, and even more so in the beta, but that's the question I'm asking here.
It's an issue which had been brought up before, but I hadn't heard anyone mention it in a while, so I thought the Cata changes thread would be a good place to check on the issue. I might ask the follow up question that if it does not, how people are handling that in the beta. Would you like me to read the tooltips for that, as well?
