I noticed on several occasions OP used the word "men." What are these "men" you speak of?
In this world there are girls, women, and boys. Boys grow up and learn not to be %^&*wads, but we're all still boys.

I have two helpfull rules when it comes to my guildies , never p*ssoff your healers and women, because you will regret it at the most inconveniant time possible.
Joking aside , women in the game can get a lot of crap which noone needs to put up with. I can garentie you will never get to meet them , unlikely you will get to kiss them , less so to sleep with them and most of all , they will not send you naked pics.

I am 18 year old guy, and I very much agree with the OP and Kramgo and Felix. Having women play wow is a great thing, because it just adds more diversity to the game and playerbase. Sexism is just a bunch of bullsh*t IMHO.
Personally, I think this isn't even an issue of sexism so much as it is one of mutual respect. Behind that chatbox and character is another human being playing the game, trying to have some fun. Sexism, racism and other such categorical insults just degrade the game experience for many players, and frankly, I think they are fcking waste of time.
Also, on a lighter note, what Felix said: P*ssing off healers and women is unwise, because it WILL come back to bite you in the arse at the most inconvenient of times.

This is a weird post. It kinda starts out as a rant about stupid sexist people, and transforms into a guide about how to hit on girls, and get laid in college. There are valid points, sure, but it is also pretty lame :-/ Seriously, flirting tips?
At first i was like "okay, i approve to this posters message" but then i was like "huh someone is too proud for getting laid". You say how patronizing is bad, yet your post feels patronizing.

Offended? ô_o I was just subtly pointing out that you might not have picked the best way to present your point.

Ps: The worst form of 'sexism' I ever encountered if you can call it that, is people who refuse to duel me because they don't want to hurt a woman.
O_O Now thats just crazy... but it might just be a lame excuse to avoid getting their asses served to them on a silver platter.

Another suggestion to add to the list of ideas on making the game a less hostile environment (and not just for women): Avoid misusing the word "rape". I'm gonna' quote
Jeffrey J. Rowland
here:
Let's talk about rape for a moment. Rape is not what George Lucas did to your childhood. Rape is not what happens when a sports team beats another sports team by a wide margin. Rape is not what happens when your electric bill is higher this month than it was last month. Rape is when a person violates another person in the most despicable, degrading way imaginable and among the myriad of terrible things humans can do to one another, rape is among the worst. I think the casual misappropriation of the concept of rape extending all the way to its
widespread comical usage
is disgusting even by
Internet standards.
Off my chest.
The sad truth is, rape is common. The general figure is that in America, one in six women will be raped at some point in their lifetime. While the figure is lower for men it nevertheless happens, particularly in some groups (for instance, inmates). Chances are pretty high that someone you know has been raped, even if you don't know it. Chances are also depressingly good that someone in your guild, in general chat, or any other channel has suffered this way or know someone who has. Some people can suffer vivid recollection of such events from various triggers, which a "harmless" joke can be.
There are so many ways to express "getting the better of someone". The English language is bountiful in its vocabulary without resorting to this.

when i read this post at first i get the feel of "oh god another 'act like this, dont do that' thread, but that's becouse i heard those over and over. What i will say is that this one, though a bit aggresive, seems pretty decent.
That being said i have a sadistic part of me wishing for those jerkbags (trying to keep it semi-polite :P) to NOT learn and later on crash and burn.
But a thing that struck me is that its not always the one making the joke at fault
sometimes just because people are offended by a joke, doesn't mean the maker of this joke should apolegise, sometimes the ones being offended need to realise this is the internet, people can sound ruder than they need to be, and THEY should be the ones to be less offended. In short: Look from both sides not just one.
also at last, your trying to teach (as far as i've read its late so i might have missed something) young boys(should be kids thou since some girls i've meet online can be just as annoying <.<). mutual respect, and on the internet, if they dont learn it in RL then they probably WONT learn it on the internet.
All in all i think the OP's thoughts was a nice idea, a little one sided and subjective, but so is 99% of everything else. But frankly i dont think this topic has any real potential =/
