I have to wonder why all the people enjoy most of the game being so easy now.
So you're going to link your 11/12+ H-ICC25 armory, right?
Interesting, a game cannot be to easy because a very small part of it isn't to easy.
No, you can't *!@#$ that a game is too easy if you're not pursuing the challenging content.

No, you can't *!@#$ that a game is too easy if you're not pursuing the challenging content.
And even the "challenging content" is easy, excluding H Lich King. Honestly, hard modes in ICC are mainly a gear check, and making sure your IQ is above that of a carrot.

1-80 lets say 7 days played, quick for someone new, normal I would say for someone that knows the quests. At 80 lets say you need 20 badges per slot, 17 slots to gear up for raids. At a rate of 4 badges per instance at 30 minutes per instance that would be 40ish hours played, so 2 more days played. So with a few pug raids the new player is ready to raid ICC regular with their new guild. So 8ish days played to begin the easy version of the "challenging" content, sure sounds fun.
Are you complaining that it's too easy to get to the "challenging content" or that that's a good thing to get to the end-game relatively quickly?

Okay - so that's a total of 168 hours. The average person isn't going to spend 24 hours a day playing WoW. Let's assume three hours a day, five days a week; that's 15 hours per week. At that rate, we're looking at roughly 11 weeks to reach level 80.
At 80 lets say you need 20 badges per slot, 17 slots to gear up for raids
It would actually be closer to 30 emblems per slot, but let's go with your number anyway. That's 340 emblems we need to earn. Let's also go with the most common dungeon role: DPS.
The average wait for DPS on the LFD seems to be about 15 minutes. A heroic takes around a half-hour, with an average of 4 emblems per dungeon plus two bonus emblems for using the LFD tool. In our three hours of play, then, we can complete four heroics, earning a total of 16 emblems.
That means it'll take roughly 21 three-hour play sessions to earn all the emblems we need. With five three-hour play sessions per week, that's just a little over a month of play. So now we're up to four months (three months to reach 80, and a month to gear up in starter gear for ICC).
So 9ish days played to begin the easy version of the "challenging" content, sure sounds fun.
Yep, I'm sure you'd be a little burned out after playing WoW for 9 straight days, with no breaks for sleep or biological needs. Of course, the average person probably won't do that, as I showed above.
A third of a year of play time to gear up just to
start
ICC - and
then
they can start gearing up in iLvl 251 gear so that their attempts at heroic challenges won't give them ulcers.
I'm not taking into account crafted gear or dungeon drops, or being carried in ICC while under-geared, which are options as well - but since you didn't mention them in your calculations, I figured I'd leave them out as well.

I may be missing something, but -
Besides the fact that these estimates are purely based on emblems and don't take anything else into account, therefore it's a bit over the top...
If you don't want to spend time developing your character, sorry, this is the wrong game for you. Maybe the wrong genre.
(I really need to get more sleep before work...or more coffee. Typos ahoy.)

I see what you're getting at, now. The points laid out in the little back-and-forth spat I was reading simply seemed to be a complaint about the time commitment it takes to gear up.
I agree that the current system has a lot of flaws. I, however, don't agree with a system that encourages devoting an amount of time that is unrealistic for many people, and having content that basically -requires- you to devote that time, thereby closing off a portion of the game to a large number of people. Blizz seems to think this as well, which is why they tried to steer the game in the direction it's currently going. Did they do it perfectly? Nope. They don't think so either.
There needs to be a happy medium where people with the luxury to spend an inordinate amount of time per day on the game can, to an extent, achieve this level faster (as they are currently doing.) In the meantime, people that can't dedicate the same amount of time per day can still, with some skill, and over a longer period of time (by that I mean, in contrast, across weeks/months longer than the former player type,) achieve a respectable level.
I agree, I have no problems with not being that "top tier" in the absolute best gear. Frankly I don't care about it. The people will to invest those large amounts of time -- the time I currently cannot invest -- can have their top-tier gear. I just want to be
able
to see that content, and maybe get a reasonable, above-average level of gear with enough months spent.
What's wrong with the situation currently, in my eyes, is that the new system allows
too many
of the lowest tier of people into the upper content. People who are only in it for themselves, they're not willing to learn fights, not willing to put research into their class. They're whiny and have an over-the-top sense of self-entitlement.
I've rambled a bit, but the gist of it is,
I agree with you, but not necessarily to the same extent. Reward the hardcores, but still allow the serious, dedicated players to see the content -- albeit maybe later, or a tier behind. By finding some sort of happy medium, a balance between time, skill, and grit, you could achieve this, but still weed out the hangers-on who are, in my opinion, holding the community back.
(And again, please excuse any missed points or paraphrasing of already said points - my brain's in first gear today.)

Few notes to the OP, forgive me for not reading all 4 pages of posts:
The game STARTS at max level, thus for WotLK it starts at 80.
Welcome to the start of the game, finally.
If you think gear doesn't matter, Diablo is more of the same. More epics gear that drops there that doesn't mean anything.
Why design green/blue gear with different graphics when the sets should get the design love?
Epics are the new blues. If you are confused, look at the Item Level (iLvl) of the gear.
You fall into the boat of this game is too easy yet you probably haven't hit the end game raids yet. How do you know its easy when you haven't experienced it?
I think you should be playing another game where you can design your own graphics for gear you get. You brought it up numerous times that they didn't make your gear look awesome.

Very, very true.
The game is different, it's been how many years since vanilla WoW? I like the fact that I can get a new 80, run the hell out of the instances, get a lot of experience ... and then move up into raiding content with guildies, with actual skills. There is still gear out there that makes you go "OMGWTFBBQ" when you see the high end raiders roll by.
I, like other semi-casual gamers, enjoy the accomplishment of getting purples ... but it's obvious that my "epics" aren't anywhere near the hardcore raiders' epics, and I'm 100% okay with that, QQ!
