if you're having trinket issues and you dont need the hit, i suggest you get 2
http://www.wowhead.com/item=42137
.
they are easy to get and offer higher dps than both the nevermelting and the abyssal rune.
This advice is so bad I don't know where to begin ripping it apart from.

Abyssal rune averages to 111 sp, according the comments for that item.
The battlemaster gives 39 more sp, at a loss of 84 haste. From what stat weights I've seen, 84 haste > 39 sp.
Since he's demo, you're right about NMIC though. That thing sucks for non-affliction D=

While the use of those trinkets will be a dps increase (marginally, 18dps difference since I was bored I did in fact sim his character with both configurations) from Abyssal Rune, they are the least of his problems. Since he is still well under hit cap he will get more mileage out of hit than spellpower at this point.
Currently his stat weights are roughly:
Hit (1.82) > SP (1.0) > Haste (0.77) > Spirit (0.66) > Crit (0.53) > Int (0.31)
And with that his best upgrades should be found
here
. Filtered for normal and heroic instances, 10 and 25 man normal raids, and purchasable with emblems. All easily attainable from the looks of his current activity.

I do agree with you Micaiah, but i dont at the same time. dont get me wrong, the abyssal rune is very nice, but according to Rawr, the battlemasters puts out 39.44 dps while the abyssal rune puts out 36.16. Now 111SP + 84 haste sounds wonderful, but that is the best case scenario. any movement after the internal cooldown, and that SP average drops. so in best case scenario, yes, the abyssal rune is better, but in reality, the gains are small at best and they get worst depending on the fight.
If you're using Rawr to sim a lock, you're doing it wrong.
Use SimulationCraft (see sticky).

indeed. the phrase "but according to rawr" destroys the credibility of anything that follows. you'd think it would be basically right but maybe not super-precise but the tests i ran (quite a while ago but the warlock module has had zero development since then) actually showed a surprisingly large disparity in the results when compared with simcraft.
this innate lack of accuracy is compounded by rawr's general inability to deal accurately with procs - the centre of this particular debate.
that said the decision regarding abyssal rune or ruination actually depends a lot more than i'd imagined on spec.
using athor's abacus as an example since it's a similar spellpower stat and useless proc (though a bit more spellpower) and there's material on it we see that at lowish (sub BiS) gear levels the abacus is actually better than the abyssal rune for destro (meaning ruination would be about equal) but the rune is WAY ahead of the abacus for affliction and demonology.

over at warlock's den.
