Not bad enough? On top of this, governments are attempting to legalize the random search, copying, and seizure of computers and other devices that hold digital data when a person brings them to an airport. They want to take our laptops with out provocation or reason, to copy search them, and copy your entire hard drive in an attempt to find pirated material. $%^& YOUR PRIVACY./facepalm... seriously; after 9/11, that god damn Patriot Act came into effect in the States, where any official of a government service; aka the CIA, Homeland Security, and the other federal level law enforcement groups, can break into your house, search it, take whatever they want, arrest you for 'nothing' and throw you into jail without a lawyer for as long as they want.... and your complaining about this?

The site Demonoid used to be blocked here in Canada... then they got around it; if this 'law' passes, the same thing will happen.

At least 4chan will be gone.
They have done some cool stuff, like mess up Justin Bieber's vote to send him to North Korea, get their founder in Time's 100 most influential people. Yeah, if you go there, you see that the site is just sickening, but on the occasion that they do something outside of their site, it is always hilarious. Just appreciate the good that they do, and stay the ^&*! away from them so you don't have to deal with how $%^&ed up they are.

I haven't done a lot of research, and I applaud your efforts to motivate action against something you don't believe in, but do you really think even if this is passed and put into effect that it will work?
I haven't done research (and I don't plan on it), but everyone is panicking about how this will
end the internet as we know it
... I dunno if I believe that's even possible. The WTO exists... yet the international drug trade is booming and growing. I could see the argument that the Internet isn't exactly analogous, but the WIPO exists and the US is a member, and that has done little to stop this sort of thing. But even if this causes the types of changes you're talking about, and they enforce it at the levels you're talking about, the number one advocates against it will become the ISP's themselves because they'll lose customers left and right, and the demand will eventually spawn new ISP's who dodge the regulations, and the big ISP's will lobby against the laws or stop following them.
And since a lot of the provisions seem voluntary to a certain extent, I don't understand how it could ever function without the full cooperation of all the major ISP's, which I don't think it would get.
In addition, as a devil's advocate argument, it's important to realize that copyright infringement, software piracy, etc... these are all
actual
crimes... It's easy to brush it off because 'everyone does it' or 'if it was really such a problem someone would put a stop to it' or 'the industry is still making millions, I'm not hurting anyone' or any of a number of other justifications -- but you're still breaking the law. I'm sure there's plenty of Opium farmers in Afghanistan who sleep quite soundly at night.
Anyways, I really don't have an actual opinion on the subject (aside from general opposition to breaches of personal privacy in any form, regardless of intention or success), my immediate reaction is that even if this goes into effect (which I doubt it will, in its current state at least) it will do little to actually change
anything
. So just let me reiterate, I applaud your efforts to motivate action... but I don't know if I believe your hyperbole, personally.

So the economy is #$%^, there is a massive oil spill in the gulf, a war is still being fought against terrorists, and our government decides to fight piracy in a way that will only drive it deeper and harder to fight.
I'm not really sure what to say.
