Better to use FB than Rip?

Hey guys, well im a 51 Feral Kitty and ive read loads of threads saying to forget about using FB. However, my FB deals around 600 damage (at 4 CP) or 700 (at 5 CP) and around 800-900 Crit. Now, by the time ive applied my Mangle, Rip, Shred and all that to get up to 4 or 5 Combo points the enemy has around 600-700 hp left.
Surely it'd be better to use FB instread of Rip? Im constantly being told FB sucks and Rip is miles better

Well i have a LOT of AP and a decent amount of Agility and some Strength, so thats probably why FB will be better for me. I think FB scales with AP

i think you meant to say FB is better at that level. undoubtedly FB is the best finisher while lvling, unless you're trying to take down an elite and want to use rip. while lvling the mob will be dead before rip can achieve its full effect, making FB the far better choice.
Rip is better for raiding since it does a ton of damage, but it does it over time not instantly.
people recommend not using FB when you raid b/c a raiding cat has to worry about a ton of buffs/debuffs (mangle, rake, sr, etc) and keeping them up gets hard enough w/o having to use FB. with enough practice - and crit for steady combo generation - you can work FB into your rotation, but it is the lowest priority move. hope i could help clear the air a bit.

Man, this post is a hodge podge of bullcr*p. First, if Ferocious Bite does 700 damage at 5CPs, how can it only crit for 800-900? I assume that crit is for 3CPs or something like that. Please be more accurate when trying to explain a situation, otherwise you're not going to receive any useful piece of advice. This is the first thing.
Second... "Mangle, Rip, Shred and all that to get up to 4 or 5 Combo points" -> erm... Maybe you mean Rake instead of Rip, I guess?
Anyway, Ferocisou Bite does not suck at all. You have this piece of information standing right there in front of you. If you say that by the time you do Mangle -> Rake -> Shred the mob only has 600-700 HP left, then using Ferocious Bite is basically a no brainer, since it will kill the mob instantly.
This line of reasoning is prefectly valid even at level 80, if we are talking about killing normal mobs while doing quests or even trash mobs in instances. Rip is a finisher meant to be used on mobs that won't die before 25-30 seconds. Otherwise you are better off using Ferocious Bite.
As
Falkor
said, the Ferocious Bite problem applies in raids, where the DPS cycle on bosses requires certain priorities fulfilled and so on and so forth. You still have some way to go until there, anyway.

General advice when leveling
When you reach 5 CPs and
Mob is > 50% HP, rip
Mob is < 50% HP, FBThanks, thats helped too :)

I'm gonna side with the newbie, Aa. I didn't know the names of all my abilities without being at the game immediately by level 51. I'm sure I was still mixing up Rake and Rip for a while after the first time I hit a level cap.
Be nice :).

Lol, I left feral behind at the time when rake was still worse then Mangle :P

My main is a Hunter anyway. I leveled my druid until 50 then stopped for like 3 months. Ive only seen like 2 or 3 ferals in the Dunegon Finder anyway. Im coming back now, thats why i dont know the names of all the abilities. Sorry for not being the elite "no-lifer" that you, oh so obviously, are.
Anyway my question has been answered now (thanks Veltorak, Falkor and Nnoutaja).

Entering into the druid forum community is a rough experience at first. Nearly every long time poster here has been short with others, just a forum going fact of life. You just need a
thick hide
and some perseverance and it suddenly becomes a rewarding place to be.
