Easy to gear up, But not easy to get skill
Your missing the main point of why people whine about GS. Just cause people can get 5k doesnt mean their good. And bragging about your 80s and their GS will NOT make people want to listen to you

; I really blame Blizzard, all of the Triumph Badge trinkets suck massive ass, too much hit and crappy uses, but because I like my Mirror, I get penalized by the GS nazis. I'm still waiting for Blizzard to break the thing for good and put it out of it's misery.

GS is a tool... and nothing less; prime example, ex-guild mate, the guy was as dumb as a stump, couldn't tank worth crap, actually thought Mocking Blow was a good dps attack because, in his words, "It makes the mob turn to face me! Means I'm doing super damage!".... last I heard, when he whispered one of our other tanks to tell him that he had '6k GS', the entire group on vent burst into laughter. I can't remember his actual GS(as I don't use the mod), but during an Ulduar group, he had roughly 5k health on me as the off tank... and he died because he was too stupid to actually tank the boss right, forcing me to pick it up as the off tank, and we downed the boss.
So yeah sure, you can have a high gear score... but it really means squat, especially now a days; if you can't play your class, all the epics in the world won't make up for your lack of skill. That's the biggest problem with the mod itself; people think because your score is high, that means your skill is high; of course, for you know, said person might have found a sucker group and they carried him through the instances.

Let me translate with proper punctuation, grammar, spelling, and brevity:
Gearing up for the newest raid instance is no longer difficult. Level with gathering professions, sell the fruits of your labor, run the new instances on normal once you hit 80, buy some filler epics that you won't be replacing from instance drops with your stash of gold, run randoms until your eyes bleed, then get the best gear you can with your badges.
You might want to throw in there that top-of-the-line gems and enchants aren't really necessary in your gear until you've gotten that last piece of gear you can before you have to upgrade it in ICC. For me, blue quality gems and one-step-down enchants are plenty until you're ICC-ready. I am about to finish gearing my holy paladin, and I'll do that with either the other EoT ring or the H HoR ring; the whole process has taken me about a week since hitting 80, and the quote box above is basically how I did it. Throw in there the fact that I'm a casual and yea...
Power-leveling a pair of crafting professions is advisable if you're serious about getting the most from your character (i.e. raiding). Two extra sockets and JC-only gems > +stam and +crit.

I completely agree with you on the trinkets; I understand why Blizzard didn't want to make better trinkets available for emblems (keep grinding for drops), so until I can get better stuff I'm using two rather awkward ilv245 Battlemaster trinkets on my DK (crit and AP); I've been accused once or twice of using them to boost my GS. I know they're not great for PvE, but it's not like I'm using +resilience trinkets either.
I use GS to see where I'm at gear-wise, I use it on others out of complete curiosity and nothing else; I've had quite a few wake-up calls where a so-called "low" GS is easily mitigated by a player who knows how to play, much the same way that I've seen plenty of players with 5.5k+ GS who are nearly useless. It's a reference tool, not a certification.
After once getting booted from a pug for a Sartharion weekly because my 4.7k GS was deemed too low (for Sarth? Seriously?), never again. I don't join Trade Channel pugs with ridiculous GS requirements, I just make my own now.

As I've said before, I'd rather inspect a player personally; see if their gemming, enchanting and gear choices are wise rather than look at some random number which gets pulled out of some stupid add-on's ass.

I made a mistake of being too hasty since I just wanted to get a raid started after spending an hour looking for healers.
Leader was a 5.4k GS mage. Didn't think anything of it since every PuG leader I've run into before knew what they were doing. Turns out he was in a mix of pvp and pve gear running a pvp fire spec.
He did 2.6k dps and less damage than the tanks. Because he could not kill Blood Beasts, we could not kill Saurfang.

Stupid triumph trinkets SUCK SO MUCH FACE!
Really, I've had to get them on a mage, in which they suck, a warrior, in which they suck, and a shaman, in which they SUCK!
WHY'D YOU DO ME LIKE THIS BLIZZARD! WHYYYYY?

I love how I top the DPS charts 9/10(6.5-7.5k DPS) with only a 4900 GS over people with 6k yet still get denied entry into even ICC 10. /sigh Maybe one day people will learn.

Yeah, on Tichondrius, it's hard for me to get into pugs that I should be able to run. Most pugs require you to be overgeared which is understandable. I'm at a reasonable GS atm, and I'm at the bare minimum to do ICC according to WoW heroes GS, and in no way do I complain about not getting into pugs, but when I do get in, I take note when I out dps people who have 1K+ GS on me.
