Im leaing toward holy now it just seems that later on that it will have much more use than disc. coming from a ret pally i have no end game healing experience so i have no idea what to expect but i know that PW:S will never be the ultimate answer as it is atm.
Oh, it can be. Both healing specs are viable in end-game.

do they have different roles in groups or are they the same? what i mean to say is that is one aimed at main tank heals and the other aimed at raid heals?
Well, this is a kinda-sorta-scenario.
Holy are raid healers, through and through. They can toss a renew, a few heals here and there to the tanks fine...but they are no longer very viable sustained tank healers. However, in ICC, the mechanics have sort of left holy priests a bit behind, so they have adapted a new strategy to try and be competitive in a 25 man ICC run; renew spamming, so basically watered down druids with a capability for burst healing if required.
On the other hand, Disc aren't raid healers, per sé, they are raid
mitigators
, meaning that they use PW:S liberally as a raid healing tool, it's a pre-emptive 8k heal or so, and in some fights (such as Lich King) this can be very potent. In a 10 man, Disc priests can heal tanks strongly, with some support, and in 25 mans a Disc Priest + Holy Paladin combination is very potent for keeping the tanks up. However, because holy paladins are currently much better tank healers, more and more disc priests are taking the bubble spam role.

Both of these issues should be changing in Cataclysm though, because Holy's use of the chakra mechanic should technically even holy priests out, giving them a capability to heal tanks when required, or to augment their strong raid healing capabilities. In Cataclysm, holy paladin single-target healing will be 'nerfed', so that it's still competitive for a tank healer, not a case of "Let's bung a holy pala on the tanks because they're the only one who can keep them up.", hopefully making disc a stronger tank healer again.

Both are totally capable specs for dungeons and raids. All it comes down to is play-style preference. You really won't get a decent idea of the subtle differences between the specs until you've tried them, though. May I suggest you try switching to Holy and run a few dungeons to get a feel for it?
Remember that each spec starts to come into it's own once you're level 70+, so stick with what feels right for now and then give both specs a serious test when you're in your 70's or even when you're 80.
