Holy paladin - How do they survive?

I am used to hearing comments on my paladin like "Paladins suck, they do too much damage and healing blah blah blah..."
But I have always wondered how a holy paladin can survive 5+ people and having no problems healing though it all. I always rubbed it off as lack of CC by other players, but I am still curious.
What I don't understand is how a holy paladin can survive some classes... such as the Shaman, Priest, and Warlock.
These 3 classes have been a major pain for me,
Shaman purge spam me and do massive burst, forcing me to keep my buffs and Sacred sheild up to keep my divine plea from being purged, which means I am not healing.
Warlock's Drain mana destroys me, even when I use Divine plea as soon as it is off CD, and HoJ and Arcane torrent when I can, it still hurts. I have tried jumping around the lock to make the cast fail, but the lock usually is able to stay on me and continue draining me, or fear me and continue to drain me.
Priests also mana drain, so i have the same issue with them.
So how can a holy pally survive so many people, when these guys can counter?

Personally I suck at PvP Holy. I've been exclusively PvE for too long. I get owned pretty hard when I'm Holy. Skill accounts for more than class in PvP.
I'm right there with you dude. I tried doing some Ret PVP yesterday, with a very good druid and a very good mage. It was mostly me getting killed in the first 2 minutes and then they would win 2 v 3. If you could look up "getting carried" in the dictionary, you would see a picture of me in PVP gear.
Cheers,
Hat
p.s. My PVP gear isn't even that bad too! 277 Bryntroll and Wrathfull legs from VOA =[ *tear*

Well, I've always been playing PVE but yesterday started to do some PVP including some arena 2v2 fooling around with an unholy DK friend. I only have 300 resi and in almost full PVE gear. We win the occasional match but essentially any team that can repeatedly stun and interrupt me, mashes us to bits in less than a minute. I'm fairly baffled about what I can feasibly do to overcome the seemingly endless stuns/interrupts a rogue has for example.
Aura mastery, use Hand of freedom and run around, it annoys rogues like crazy. This keep moving, melee can't stand a target that doesn't stand in place.
Use your trinket and HoJ them and arcane torrent when needed. Bubble if your scared of death, or Hand of Protection if bubble is on CD. If you are going to use divine plea, use it after healing from a stun lock and when you are using hand of freedom to stay away from the rogue or whatever you are fighting. Hand of Freedom is key, or give Hand of Freedom to your partner so he/she can peel them off of you.
Edit: also pick up a Warrior for a 2v2 partner, did skirmish with one yesterday and it was easy mode, druid/warrior teams were a joke, same with cleave teams.

Agreed with above, movement and good placement will help you survive in pvp more than your plate will. Especially vs melee dps, if you can stay far enough away, the time it takes for the guy to switch on you gives you plenty of time to prepare a defense, whether that be running away elsewhere, calling for your partner to help you or stunning him before he has a chance to stun you. Also always try to be out of any range dps's line of sight if possible, especially to save yourself from polymorphs and the like. If you see it being cast, break line of sight.
Between hand of freedom, bubble, cleanse, and our plate defense (not easy to kill in the duration of a stun) we pallies are veery hard to pin down and kill, just gotta find a way to mix movement with healing.
