a simple question. does chain lightning proc overload only from the first target? i think i've seen 2 extra chain lightnings come out of me sometimes, but i can't be sure.
i'm wondering if the proc chances increase with the chain lightning glyph, assuming there are 4 targets?

thanks for the reply. i did some testing against 2 training dummies and sometimes one chain lightning cast did 6 hits total, not a 66% chance though. more like 3%
edit: it's odd though. my combat log shows 6 hits, totaling 3090 damage and recount shows 4 hits, totaling 1994 damage.
sometimes recount agrees with the amount of hits, but not everytime.

I'm pretty sure Lightning Overload works as a chance on spell cast, not as a chance when a target is hit. So when you cast either Lightning Bolt or Chain Lightning, it "rolls" once to see if you've proc'd it. If you look at the
wording
, it refers to "spells" and while CH hits 3/4 targets, it's still one spell.
As far as my experiments go, it looks like the chance is applied on spell hit, not spell cast. You'll notice that if you fire chain lightning at a group, where every single arc hits, you'll most likely always have an overload.
... or, I might just be incredibly lucky.

You're incredibly lucky Gnub :) And it is on spell hit.
They did something nasty though. Each jump only has an 11% chance of procing overload ... on that target. So, if you're casting CL at a single target, you're only getting 11% to proc. At two targets, you're getting 2 shots at 11% (which, btw, is NOT 22% chance of procing, but I don't feel like doing the math). And of course, 3 or more targets are giving you 3 tries at 11% each (also, not 33%).
Hmm, that's odd. Is that confirmed anywhere? :O
Gratz on the Moderater status Gnub!
Thanks! Hoping to serve the community well. :)
