Today is Cinco de Mayo when we celebrate the Mexicans victory over France because of unpaid debt.
So what happens if I refused to pay taxes? Will I get a special day to celebrate my day of defeat over the IRS? Just wondering...
Edit: Thinking I should of put this on the Random page lol! Ooops!

I live in Texas. We celebrate the %^&* out of Cinco de Mayo down here. As a gringo, I don't really. No offense, Mexico, but your victory over France doesn't really have anything to do with me.

Yeah well, without the French, America would still be a colony of England, so consider that.

Technically, France probably wouldn't have existed the way it did (independant) without the fall of the Roman empire, which was brought about partially by the Huns. If that hadn't have happened, France wouldn't have existed to help the US gain independance from the Brittish.
So, the US really has the Huns to thanks.
But in all seriousness, the French were only one factor among many. I consider WW2 to be payback enough for their help in the revolution, and the statue. But, these are all subjective values. I'd consider the louisiana purchase from napoleon to be a bigger impact on the current state of the local people (me) than france's intervention, which may or may not have been vital to the gaining of american independance. It is debateable. In the very least, it sped it up.
