Titles and holiday events...

It used to be, I did all the holiday quests for any holiday that occurred when I had time to log in.
Now I mostly ignore them.
When titles and achievements were added, I mostly thought it was a really cool thing. I still like to go for achievements. But if something's going to take time and effort to do, I like to first look ahead to what rewards I can get. Say, titles. If the reward for a bunch of holiday quests is a title, then I start thinking whether the time and grind are worth it for that title.
Here's the thing, though: PvP is antifun to me. So I will never do a PvP achievement. Which, in turn, means that if there's a PvP achievement required for the title, I will never get the title. Which, in turn, means that I don't see any point in pursuing any of the achievements.
Since most of the holiday stuff has no other rewards, that means I don't bother with it anymore. What's interesting is that I think it really was fun in its own right back before the achievements were added, but now that there's achievements, they change the way I think about the effort/reward ratio; if I'm not going to get the cool part of the reward, that makes it seem less fun, even though presumably the quests are no worse than they used to be.

I guess what I'm commenting on is that, while holiday quests were fun, now that the significant rewards depend on something I'm unwilling to do, the entire holiday ceases to be fun or interesting to me. I guess it's an interesting (to me) side-effect of the way that Blizzard has tried to tweak motivations. In the process of trying to motivate people to do more stuff, they've actually made me less motivated to participate in a large number of events.
I'm aware that there's a 310% mount for completing them all. But again, since I'm not going to be able to enjoy at least some part of most of the holiday event achievements, I'm not going to complete that, so the mount is a non-issue; I can't get it without doing something I find much more irritating than raiding.
The interesting thing, to me, is that clearly there was some kind of value to the holiday stuff before, but as soon as they tied it all together, I lost interest in doing even the parts that used to be fun, because they're now part of a larger task that I have written off. That's a moderately surprising outcome to me -- it doesn't fit a lot of traditional models of how people are motivated, but there it is, happening. Theoretical model, meet data. :)

So, you won't do the miniscule bit of pvp required to fill ALL the achieves for the meta? Well, good for you. Not much we can do for you though.

Right, because
any PVP at all
is unfun for me. I'm not interested in doing something unfun, so I don't. It's not a question of "I don't want to do this all day", it's a question of "I don't want to do this ever".
Whatever, no big deal -- I just think it's interesting that, as soon as there's a title for doing all these things, even the ones I would otherwise probably have done seem less fun. Which is probably not particularly rational.
Say I sorta like roller costers and ferris wheels, but hate the tilt-o-whirl. And then some amusement park does something where if you go on
all
the rides, you get a t-shirt. Apparently, this would make ferris wheels and roller coasters less fun to me -- I wouldn't be as likely to ride them, because I wouldn't be able to get the t-shirt without going on the tilt-o-whirl. I didn't know about this, but apparently this is part of how motivation works.

Each to their own, I suppose. If you really hate PvP so much and the
Proto-Drake
is not appealing, then I wish you well to enjoy the fun parts of the game.
Personally, a small amount of PvP was part of the challenge to get awarded with the drake. I was prepared to invest a whole year doing this, so a few BGs weren't going to put me off!...and I was a happy halloweener last year!

Well, the proto-drake is appealing, but not
that
appealing.
I can't think of an in-game reward that would be sufficiently appealing. I figure some day I'll do a bunch of raid achievements or something to get a 310% mount. I don't much like raiding, but I don't really mind it, and with a competent group it's even fun.

Well, the proto-drake is appealing, but not
that
appealing.Quite.
I've got the red proto drake, but I dislike the proto drake models. The only attraction that the violet proto drake holds is the speed. But seriously, 310% vs. 280%... is there much difference at all? And who, these days, flies anywhere, except to farm? My main doesn't farm, nor do I do any dailies with her. I only fly from Dalaran to ICC if I'm one of the first in the raid group. The LFD has removed the convenience of even epic flying.
My priestess still want the Matron title, but not enough to suffer the PvP griefing and ganking ever again.
Edit: oh yeah, come Cataclysm, 310% mount speed will be trainable anyway.
You're saying it just because you can't be arsed to get a 310%.
