Jsut pre 80 planning gear on my 60 Mage.
I plan to get the 264 crafted legs or BoE shoulders, so is it worth getting the 4piece 232 t9 bonus,
or Am i better off jsut getting all the high iLevel off set pieces?
264 crafted Legs
245 Triumph Helm
245 Triumph Shoulders
Merlins Robe Chest
(also melirlins robe/bejeweld bracers are better than the moonshroud stuff right?)

The crafted legs are BiS until Heroic ICC so they are a very good choice. That however means you'll need to get the T9 chest, head, gloves and shoulders to get the 4 piece bonus.
Depending on how wild you plan on going with Heroics, you might end up getting 60 Emblems of Frost (meaning your first piece of T10) before or shortly after you get your T9 4-piece. (Assuming you do the Random Heroic every day, as well as the weekly raid quest).
If that might be a situation you find yourself in, than it's better to go for the off-set pieces instead, as individually they are better than the T9 pieces. Not sure if the T9 2 piece is still better than the 2 off-set pieces, so you'd have to Rawr that, but if the T9 2 piece isn't better, you should grab the head and shoulder off-set pieces and make Merlin's Robes.
It's a little hard to say not knowing your activity/play schedule, raiding options, etc.

Thansk for the replies, no-one is raving about the 4pT9 bonus it seems so I'll just skip it :-)
Would people recommend 2pt10 above say the 60 Frost Belt/Cloak as my 1st purchase?
(i'll could get crafted 226
Cord of the White Dawn
, as an alternative, but unsure on Cloak options.

Yes, your first priority is to get your T10 2 piece, as the 2 piece bonus is godly. You should get your 4pT10 before thinking about buying any off-set pieces IMO.
There's a nice cloak in ToC25, which is also BoE, so you could either buy it if you have the gold, or hope it drops for you. This is the one I'm talking about:
Shroud of Displacement
.
There's a nice belt that drops in Heroic Pit of Saron you could grab:
Braid of Salt and Fire
. If you do wish to craft one, I'd recommend making
Sash of Ancient Power
over the one you suggested.

SPIRIT doesn't suck it is crit and it is mp5
spirit is not your most inportand thing to get but it is nice to have some spirit
spirit>mp5 counts for mage's
Typical example:
Dagger from lootship
versus
marrowgar dagger
comparison
.
Mp5 item is slightly better. So dont look only at spirit.
Itemisation for mages is:
(Hit) > Spp > Haste > Crit > Int >>>>>>>> Spirit = Mp5
I won't go into how flawed your logic is, but just to kill this bad example you posted:
A. Your comparing a 10 man Heroic item to a 25 normal item, which is flawed. And don't give me the "It's the same iLevel argument" as 10H gear is
usually
slightly better than 25 normal gear.
B. It depends on your spec, for Fire Mages, the Frozen Bonespike beats the Midnight Sun easily.
C. There are plenty of very good items for a Mage, even Arcane Mages, that have Spirit. Passing them to a Warlock/Priest/whatever just because it has Spirit is dumb.
D. Running around with MP5 gear makes you look far worse than running around with Spirit on your gear. MP5 gear should
always
go to a healer, unless no healer wants it and it's a clear upgrade for a Mage should one take it. If an item has Spirit and it's an upgrade, you should roll for it, it's not a great stat for us, but it still gives us some benefit, so there's no point not taking it.
Just yeah, stop making it sound like we're discussing the value of Agility for Mages here. Clearly Spirit isn't a statistic Mages should actively be looking for, but if it's an upgrade it's an upgrade, regardless of the item having Spirit or not. Your not going to find a Raid Leader in a PUG or even a guild denying a Mage a clear upgrade just because it has Spirit on it.

Personally i like spirit, its not the best for mages but it is better than Mp5 and
i go for Spirit over crit
mostly because some spirit dose go for crit and mana regen and crit is pretty useless for an arc mage in general. i have under 20* crit unbuffed but in a raid i get to 40% so there is no need to stack crit so imo its ( hit > sp ≥ haste > int > spirit > everything else) but thats just me
Spirit over crit? Wtf.
I have to agree with you on that one. Chosing Spirit over Crit is just unexplained, there's absolutely no benefit to chosing Spirit above Crit, MP5 is not something a Mage looks for, hence why none of our Tier gear has Spirit or MP5, and why you don't go for any piece that has MP5 in general.

And spirit is vastly better than MP5, but what you did was compare not 1 but 2 set of stats which makes the whole thing flawed.
Spirit works only when not casting, or when casting if you have taken
certain talents
. Mp5 works no matter what. If there is certain interval when you arent casting means you are moving.
Spirit isnt better than mp5 its just more complex, 55% of it goes as your crit rating. 45% is wasted itemisation. Mp5 is still better mp regen than spirit.
Unless its a direct upgrade you should avoid items with spirit.
Mages don't rely on MP5 through gear, that's why none of our Tier pieces have Spirit or MP5 on them, so saying MP5 is better mana regeration than Spirit is useless. MP5 obviously affects us, but if Mages relied on it, we'd see the stats on our gear.
Therefor, Spirit is better than MP5, as Spirit provides us with Crit on top of the small amount of mana regen. Also, I'm not sure how you came up with your 55% Spirit goes to crit, the other 45% is wasted itemization, but that's wrong.
Every point of Spirit provides us with a small amount of crit, nothing is wasted. Molten Armor converts 55% of our total Spirit into additional crit rating, but Spirit by itsself still provides crit as well, for the full 100%.

Int provides crit, thats true.
Spirit? Crit? Never heard of it. Care to show me the source of your knowledge and the actual numbers? Couldnt found anything at
wowwiki
.
You're absolutely right, my sincere apologies, I have no clue what I was smoking when I typed that up.
I do stand by my point that Spirit is still more valuable than MP5 however!
