I was healing SFk on my
shaman
and there was a rogue in the group. His gear seemed correctly itemized, but when I saw his weapons I kindly suggested that he try using the slow mace in his MH for more damage from sinister strike, while the faster dagger in the OH would be good for steady poison application once he got poisons...I used to play a human combat swords rogue, and that was generally the rule of thumb when I played, fast OH slow MH.
He flipped completely out on me! Saying all kinds of stuff, calling me a retard etc. I was tempted to drop the group, since I was healing and could find another easily but I needed to finish the dungeon for a quest (I then forgot to grab arugal's head, I was po'ed).
1) Am I wrong? Did something change the way combat rogues work these days?
2) What do you guys usually do if you run into someone like this?

The threads that complain about a person someone met in a random dungeon need to stop.
Seriously.
Theres probably 10 new ones every day.
Congrats, you met one of the many people who nerdrage or like to screw with PuG members. That's fantastic. You don't need to post a forum thread about it.

My favorites are the ones who instantly start bashing people as soon as we enter the instances and will go "God why do I always get put with #$%^ty players" or "Fail grp is fail" before even hitting the first mob, I just Lol at them and proceed with the instance and never say another word to them. It usually makes them really mad when you ignore them and wont trash talk back.

Also - people generally respond very badly to criticism of their playstyle.
This. Because we are playing a video game, people make a connection with their avatar as a personal representation of themselves... Commenting on someone's playstyle usually results with them taking it as a personal attack.
Its best just to not communicate with your fellow pug'ers if at all possible. Just do your job and pray for the best.

It's a sad state of affairs that while playing in a multiplayer game and facing a situation where teamwork is expected, the reaction form many is to ignore and not communicate with people.
I talk in all of my random dungeons. Get to know players, ask what they like. Many times people don't say much, but there are lots of times where I have had great conversations with people.
If all you want to do is ignore those you are playing the game with, why are you playing?
Yes, there are jerks. Yes, there are antisocial players. However, I truly find these are in the minority if you just ATTEMPT to be social with people.

I've noticed that trying to give advice to a random player is usually un-welcomed. The way I see it, the guild should be responsible for how effective a player is. If someone can't take advice or wants to play a certian way they will find other players that fail, succeed or play like them. Thats why I like the vote-kick and it should be carried over to battlegrounds.

zone in
give a greeting of some sort be it "/p Hi there." or a simple /salute
if the tank is a paladin or death knight check to see if righteous fury or frost presence are active, if not then whisper the tank simply saying "frost presence/righteous fury mate"
if no conversation arises then do what needs to be done while giving encounter specific tips as needed
when the objective is completed give a farewell of some sort, "/bow" or "/p take care" work
if a conversation did arise then feel free to stick around a bit afterward, you can chat with some of the more civil people and queue up together if you agree to
If someone asks for advice on their given class/role then go ahead but if they don't ask then they mustn't have any desire to better themselves and might even be quite fond of how badly they suck or even take pride in their ability to hinder the group as a whole by being so subpar.

I'm always interested in hearing another point of view, unless the person is condescending about it.

Since the OP started off with a name and shame, this is done. First post edited.
