Dude. It got Pug from Magician. Damn.
Pug ftw. But you should have gone for Milamber to see if it was separate.

We had to build one of these (except ours was simply 'Yes' or 'No' questions) using binary search trees in Java in one of my programming classes, it was pretty interesting =)
If it works at all like ours, then the quickest answer should take ~Log-base-2(total number of Characters in the database) guesses; and it also means the more characters get added, the further down it moves. If 12 steps is the quickest, you might venture a guess that there are at least 2^12 = 4096 names in the d-base (although its probabaly
much
higher due to the fact that you can pick from 5 choices in his, and not just 2 like ours).
I stumped him with Valentine Wiggin (Ender's sister) and Malakili (the Rancor handler from Return of the Jedi), but they were both in his database =D He got Wedge Antilles really quickly.
Sorta - 12 steps is the quickest simply because he can narrow it down, and the binary splits happen to knock out a high number of characters. You'd need to look at the average number of questions required for it to identify with 100% confidence to calculate the database size like that.
That, and he can actually guess them in less than 12 questions, but the program is designed to capture more information up to a minimum of 12 questions.

There's also one for somebody who presses no.
