Let me introduce Bob and George.
Bob is a black man traveling on foot through a 100% white neighborhood. Let's imagine this is the average 100% white neighborhood in the United States. Do it justice. Imagine it in your mind like it probably is in reality.
George is a white man traveling on foot through a 100% black neighborhood. Let's imagine this is the average 100% black neighborhood in the United States. Do it justice. Imagine it in your mind like it probably is in reality.
Now, which of these two gentlemen is more likely to encounter racism and violence during his travel? All answers will be considered subjective.

I don't think there is any right answer or wrong answer. I have no intention of debating anyone's answers. I just thought it would be interesting to see what people thought.

Two weeks ago, I volunteered for a service project at the Boys and Girls Home of North Carolina and I was the only white male volunteer there (other than a gay guy who wasn't around the rest of the guys anyways because he was working on less physically demanding projects with the girls). I ended up riding around with something like 16 black guys in a truck who I didn't know doing stuff around the premises, and although I was nervous at first I discovered black people are pretty friendly. They might not have been the "average" people, but if they were anything close I don't think I would be uncomfortable going through a black neighborhood. I'm not a black person though so I don't know how a black person would be treated by an all white neighborhood, although I guess the only all white neighborhoods left are probably way out there in the boonies, and you might have serious racists up there, so I don't know.

Honestly, this observation doesn't have nearly enough variety in people.
You met the black men who would do volunteer work.
I've met those kinds of people, but I've also 'met' (meaning mugged or beaten the crap out of) by the kind who will stab you for being white and walking through their projects.
I have met racist whites, but never (not saying that they don't exist) met a white man would stab someone for being black and walking through his neighborhood. From what I've seen in all black neighborhoods, I find the second answer to MyTie's question much more likely.
More than that, I know black people who do. My friend Carlos grew up in a near all black community, a really bad project, and is essentially scared &*!@less by other black people.

Take a stroll through some of the more racist areas in Texas and see what happens to African-Americans there.
See in Texas, they wouldn't stab them, they'd shoot em and then say the person was trespassing on their property, hehe.

Are we saying this is a result of nature or of socioeconomic situation? Because I'd point out the situation you said never happens used to happen several times a week, in broad daylight, throughout half of the country. Usually the sheriff was involved.
A question I think needs to be asked is: Consider the time when abolition was ratified in the constitution, and Reconstruction had been abandoned. What does 'freedom' mean to a former slave with no money, no education, no skills, little ability to travel, of a skin color which is still extremely hated, in a country with no anti-discrimination laws, and with an extremely small state government with little to no federal government involvement? Does it mean the same thing to a modern suburban white kid with two college educated parents? What does 'freedom' mean to a young black boy living with his single, uneducated, and unemployed mother, far below the poverty line, in a district with abysmal public schooling? Does it mean the same thing to him as it does to that suburban white kid?
I think white guilt is a ridiculously stupid concept. I was never personally the man keeping someone else down, and I shouldn't have to feel guilty that it happened. But to say we fixed everything and have nothing to worry about anymore is shockingly naive, and should be shown to be false after about 30 seconds of google searching.

Ouch, that's always awkward...
Always in the sense of: Any debate is usually awkward when shown to somebody else who isn't participating in the debate.

That's a main reason why it happens. Many blacks have developed an innate hate for whites for what they did to them in the past.

I'm going to have to QFT here.
My parents were rebels of the Apartheid in South Africa, I was raised to be tolerant, I'm most definitely not a slaver, and you were most definitely not a slave. What right do you have to kick my teeth in for being white, because my great great grandpa (Who was in Russia/Poland, so good luck justifying even that) was a slaver to your great great grandpa?

almost everyone is a feminist.Women are still paid anywhere from 60-80% of what a man gets paid in the USA and the rates of a promotion are far lower for women then men.
These two seem to contradict each other.
How? I don't see it.
Unless I'm unusually dense today...
If everyone is a feminist, why is there still inequality?
Because it says almost. The executives of companies are at the top, and they determine the pay. And they are usually white males. Thus they aren't feminist but most others are.

Consider why the executives are white males though.
1) Executive positions demand long hours, which men are more willing to undertake than women.
2) ... no, (1) is pretty much it.
Men have generally been more willing to be aggressive when it comes to work and climbing the corporate ladder. Longer hours, international travel when necessary, not a problem.
Women have generally been more family-centric. Want shorter hours, less travel, so they can head home and look after the family.
The pay at the top levels reflect this.
The problem is, many feminists (both pro-female and pro-equality) believe this is unfair - that women should be paid similar to the men, that they should be equally represented in executive positions, but that they shouldn't need to work the hours. The pro-equality people justify this by saying that the executive hours ought to be shortened; the pro-feminist people justify this by saying that females produce babies and shouldn't be expected to work as long as the men. *cough*
Consider the range of benefits available to females on maternity - these come at a cost to the companies. In an equal world, they would either not get these benefits, that males would also get these benefits (slowly starting to happen around the world, but not to the same degree of benefit), or that women will get lower pay in order to equalise the cost to the companies (currently happening).
I agree with Queggy - many femenists have turned the 'equality' movement into a 'pro-female' movement, which is sad. But even the equality movement doesn't recognise that there is an inherent disconnect between male and female pay, jobs, etc, simply because of male/female tolerance to work and receive benefit. We don't criticise the fact that there aren't many female plumbers (who earn significant money compared to other blue-collar workers), why should we be overly concerned about the lack of female board directors, when the stress of the positions are things that many females simply don't want to deal with?
