Lol, for someone to say
"everything is made up of something we cannot see" doesnt make them a genious, it shows they have common sense. I could have told you that when I was 5.
You would have told me that when you were five almost 2000 years ago? You probably would have been thought of as a loony.

+ years ago.Democritus (Greek: Δημόκριτος, Dēmokritos, "chosen of the people") (ca. 460 BCE – ca. 370 BCE) was an Ancient Greek philosopher born in Abdera, Thrace, Greece. He was an influential pre-Socratic philosopher and pupil of Leucippus, who formulated an atomic theory for the cosmos. Democritus is recognized as the earliest proponent of the concept of atomism.
The theory of Democritus and Leucippus held that everything is composed of "atoms", which are physically, but not geometrically, indivisible; that between atoms lies empty space; that atoms are indestructible; have always been, and always will be, in motion; that there are an infinite number of atoms, and kinds of atoms, which differ in shape, and size
Edit: Okay maybe not 2500+ years ago but close to it.

I was dead for billions of years before I was born, and it certainly did me no harm.

How do you deal with the possibility that death is the end?
The end of what?
"Dealing with future possibilities that we have no control over" = insanity...
How do you deal with the possibility that we atheists might be right? By listening to the lie, so that you don't cry yourself to sleep at night?
I believe I'll have another drink, if tomorrow comes I'll go to work, be good to my wife and kid...oh and have another drink.
If you believe so much in the after life, shouldn't you have a plan in effect to transfer over your 401k, build a pyramid or something?
These statements are wrong in so many ways that I can't be bothered going into them.

I HATE HATE HATE when religious people are quesitoned about their beliefs and then they say 'prove it'. I say every single person who believes in something supernatural will be tortured for eternity though an eternal Senses Deprivation Room- also known as the Human Body. But if you understand that what I say is true then you will simply lose conciousness and basically fall into a deep sleep forever.

Can't. Stop. Must. Type.
The Christian Bible says light was created first and the sources of light were created on what? Day four?
God loves you so much but puts you in Hell if you don't accept him.
What about those books the Catholic Church keeps locked away that were meant to be a part of the Christian Bible? Why would they do that?
Who was Joseph's father again? Check Matthew. Oh wait, check Luke.
If God is as perfect as described, then how can atheists like me not
know
he exists?
Christmas and Easter were moved to accommodate pagan converts, whose holidays are celebrated at the solstices and equinoxes. "Hey! Let's base our religion on even more lies!"
The universe is unfathomably huge. Unfathomably. It has "
billions and billions
" of solar systems, planets, and moons. And here we are, the only reason for all of it. Pffft.
The average American lives to be somewhere between 70 and 90 years old, infinitely less than an iota in what will be the near-limitless lifespan of the universe. The lifespans of Earth and the Milky Way will be nothing more than specs of dust in an afternoon breeze on the timeline of the universe. Yet the entire universe was created for Earth. Yeaaaah right.
Not even the entire human existence will have any impact on the whole of reality. Cherish the 70 years you can pretty much bet on and quit fantasizing. Do for your fellow humans while you can. Improve someone's life through deeds rather than promoting baseless fanaticism.
Organized religion did get one thing right: The Golden Rule. But that's about it.

This thread has no point, as I see it.
The answer would be: 'It's what I believe.'
It's not debatable, it's someone's belief.
And someone will try and change it.
Been happening all up the religion threads.

It's not why we believe it, it's why we can cope with our beliefs, which is in my opinion, a perfectly valid question when asked from the other side.
How can you cope knowing that your every action will be judged and that eternal suffering may await you?

I don't think that should be happening.
People used to believe the world was flat.
It's my opinion that you don't have to enter the threads if you don't want to, so if you do, you should be ready to have your beliefs argued against.
