Leveling a new toon...

Ok so I told myself I wouldn't level a new toon until Cataclysm. But I did. I made a Resto Shaman (lvl 25 atm). I haven't leveled a new toon in... well... quite some time. One interesting thing I've noticed doing dungeons so far, people seem to be either really really REALLY good at their class and offer advice to others, or they're really really REALLY bad at their class and constantly harass other group members.
I guess this is a bit of a "back in my day..." thread, but seriously... back when I first started playing this game, even if people weren't zomgwtfpwn at their class at low levels, they still cared enough to pay attention and offer whatever odd little tricks they thought up as advice. Also, I remember when tanks made sure they didn't pull more than three mobs, and if they pulled more they'd apologize. Now we have Rambo going and pulling entire rooms when the mage has more health than he does.
As a healer, with terrible low lvl mana regen, this is incredibly stressful on runs where the tank is like the energizer bunny. I use Fire Nova every ten seconds, and somehow I seem to put out more damage than the damage dealers, while keeping everyone alive with relative ease.
What are your thoughts and experiences while leveling alts these days? With all the nerfed exp needed to level, heirloom items, and the new LFD tool, what do you think the attitude of genuine newbies have toward group activities? (i.e. dungeons and battlegrounds)

Using Fire Nova on cooldown isn't helping your terrible low lvl mana regen

Yeah I had similar experiences while leveling my most recent character.
Back in the day, most of the people who played WoW were more hardcore gamers because WoW wasn't as mainstream as it is today. Now we're picking up players who aren't even gamers going in. When WoW first started, most of it's players were people who played other, similar MMOs, Blizzard games, or both. Leveling was also slower and the difference in strength between the levels was a lot less. The game moved a lot more slowly overall.
Now even experienced people often simply don't care because you get through those levels so quickly. People assume they don't have to try because when they don't pay attention to what they're doing, they're often carried by people who do.
With all the nerfed exp needed to level...
When did this happen?
in BC and then some more in Wrath

That one spell every ten seconds constitutes about half the group damage on a regular basis, which allows us to finish much faster. I go oom every 3 pulls, or every large (usually two rooms) pull since tanks can't hold aggro well and I'm healing everyone in the group. Fire Nova is not a lot of mana compared to heals I'm spamming. This isn't even the point of the thread anyway.

I totally understand the OP. I created a Human Priest a while ago, and levelled him mostly by running instances. It seems as though either people on't understand how to play in a group, and more important what aggro actually means, and how NOT to get it, or they just fool around and have no patience... So more than once i'm healing 4 people constantly instead of just 1, very annoying.
On the other hand, levelling is extremely fast this way and i always have blue gear on me, which is kind of cool :) So i try not to focus too much on people's behavior and just sit it out. And there' always the occasional good group ofcourse.
Although the LFD tool has made it easier to find a group, it's also less personal and thus easier to leave a group, and that happens a lot.

Levelling a Mage atm, and the one thing I have noticed is the tanks. I'm assuming many of them have mains who have watched ICC geared tanks chainpull through 5 man heroics, and seem to want to do the same in lower lvl LFD.
Had some horrible groups, but the upside is, so does everybody, so when you get a nice group people seem very inclined to run three or four randoms back to back.

The sad part is when someone is preforming two roles in a dungeon, and out preforming those concentrating on a single role. I.E. tanks and healers ending up as top damage. Just makes me laugh a little when I open up recount at the end of the run.

My Warrior tank was top damage a lot leveling through LFD because of Heirlooms, Thunderclap, and Cleave. My
Energizer Priest
was topping the damage meters while healing because thanks to Heirlooms + PW:S and Renew
I barely needed to heal
. Tanks and Battle-Healers decked out in Heirlooms are going to outshine the DPS.
Also, pre-30 AoE:
Druids only have Swipe (Bear).
Hunters only have Multi-Shot (at 18).
Mages only have Blizzard (at 20).
Paladins only have Consecrate (at 20).
Priests only have Holy Nova (at 20).
Rogues don't have one.
Warlocks only have Rain of Fire (at 20).
Warriors have Thunder Clap (20 rage, 6sec CD).
Shaman have Magma Totem and Fire Nova.
Pre-30 Shaman win because they can drop an AoE totem then have a passive AoE then an active AoE 1 GCD every 10sec.

People who spam recounts in low level dungeons are sad.

Especially ones who spam "DPS" and not "Damage Done"...even at 80 they're sad, but he didn't say he spams it, just that he chuckles when he "opens up recount at the end of the run."

Hehe I have also been leveling a resto shammie alt and you post is pretty recognizable :)
Especially the part about newbie low health tanks that think they are an ICC 25 geared superspeed chainpuller in a heroic... which can be very stressful and irritating at times, since very often they are also the ones that pay no attention to their healer whatsoever, and like running out of range and around corners into the next 10 mobs while I am OOM (after which they say 'WTF.. healer?').
Then again I must say: some of my best and most enjoyable tanks have also been super chainpullers. The ones that know how to tank, know exactly how much they can pull and push it to the max while stopping exactly when I run out of mana. But you don't meet those too often, unfortunately :/
Up until about level 40 I've also often been healing and DPSing at the same time with my shammie, generally outdpsing the actual DPS. After you get to dungeons like Maraudon though, healing gets to be more fun and harder, and your DPS is going to lag behind the classes that actually spec for it (and you also won't have the spare time or mana for it anymore anyway).
I am now in my 60's and getting the influx of death knights into my groups. About 50% of them seem set on running off as soon as they zone in, to proceed to tank instead of the person in the group that actually signed up for it, haha :D Fun.
Weird thing in many of these runs, especially the lowest levels: people in the group wanting to rush and skip bosses.. I assume we're all there for XP and gear mostly.. skipping parts of the dungeon seems counterproductive to me then..? The goodie bag seems to be a silly reason.. since you will get tons of them and often they will have the same gear that dropped from the bag before.
Another thing that strikes me as odd at the lower level dungeons, is that a LOT of people randomly drop group halfway though the run. Without saying anything. They just drop. Nothing weird going on, no wipes or anything. But they leave. Sometimes you go through ten people before finishing a dungeon. Ok... 8)
I've met some total noobs, some super awesome players, but mostly just average nice people.
And I love LFD :)
