Hi,
On my new 80 lvl Prot Pally. Got a mixture of Blues and Greens for gear. Can I go DPS for regular WOLK dungeons, or will I get laughed at and kicked? I don't feel as though I can tank at all, so that's why I'm suggesting DPS.
Cheers.

Well atleast youre not asking about Heroics already, if youre prot with prot gear stick with it. Nothing wrong with using the regular versions of wrath instances to give you a idea on how to tank properly. If you wanna DPS then you should switch to Ret and buy the lvl78 crafted pvp gear (Savaged Saronite set) Queueing as DPS and using all your emblems for prot gear is pretty common practice. If you choose to DPS in Prot w/ prot gear then yes you will be made fun of and probably kicked from the group.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I may indeed try tanking regular dungeons and try to get the hang of it.
Cheers.

Unless you're not breaking 1k I've not seen the issue of people making fun of DPS for low output..
I hope any 80 can break 1k... I can break 1k on my friend's 66 mage -.-
Mage is a pure dps class. Try playing a newly-80 hybrid class with bad gear, you may well find it quite a bit harder to get a decent dps score. I know personally it took me a fair while and several upgrades before I could get over 2k with my shadow priest.
Consequently I never give anyone a hard time for their dps, unless it's just painfully obvious that they aren't even trying, and yes it is usually pretty easy to tell if someone isn't putting any effort in.

Dual spec with Ret, jump in LFD, learn from the tank how to tank the instances, use emblems to buy better Prot gear, and then tank instances....do the same thing for when you start raiding. But make sure you ask the group what to do.

I did what you said. I chose a specific dungeon - Violet Hold (because it's confined space means you don't have to know it that well). I told the group I was a new tank and to help me out, and they did. They said I did well, and they gave me some extra pointers. So, it was a great success.
Then, I tried random and of course got Occulus - yuck. Someone quit after a while and so did I, but it was good experience.
Cheers.
