I am confused.
I don't think I really understand what exactly happens on an RP server?
I have been playing WoW for years and still have yet to test an RP server out or even give it an ounce of my thought/time.
I have always figured it to be an extremely nerdy type of server.
Instead of saying, "hang on while I hearth," you'd say, "hang on while I report back to the mighty Thrall!"
Something ridiculous like that.
Aren't you like, supposed to act like you actually are your character?
If that's correct, that's extremely nerdy.
Not trying to offend anyone, but really, I think that's lame.

lol i play on an RP server (Sentinels) i got onto it bc my friends that got me onto wow in vanilla days were on it and i dont think in the years i have been playing have even once said anything close to resembling RP . . . the main thing about RP servers is there are guilds and areas where there does tend to quite a bit of RP play and as discussed earlier ERP

Welcome to Goldshire! Be sure to avoid the loli vampire catgirls and you'll have a nice visit.
And the strippers.
And the erpers.
Actually, you should avoid everybody else there also.
Stay out of the inn at all costs.
If you have to go into the inn for any reason, stay out of the bedrooms.
You might want to turn off your general chat as well.
And local chat.
Maybe defense chat...
You know what? Just avoid Goldshire. Your brain will thank you.

Being a mother of a child who is very young and enjoys wow....if worried about erpers or whatever in Goldshire wouldn't you just help them roll a horde...on a non RP server? Mature filter while yes is easy to turn on and off you can walk by occassionally and see if it's on, plus my son will not play unless I am on or right around him until he is old enough to make decisions for himself, and be deemed consequences if neccessary and possibly even lose his wow....

I play on a RP server and our Goldshire fortunately doesn't have any ERP going on. Usually there are only some duel spammers hanging around there. I have played toons on several other RP servers and haven't encountered anything like that on them either.
I once went to Argent Dawn EU though after midnight, and was scarred for life ;) Let's just say that scantily clad ladies were lined up in the inn advertising themselves, and when my poor lvl 1 draenei male tried to run off to the safety of Northshire, he was chased by several ponytailed human males, shouting for a word ending in 'ape'. He ran and ran, but after he died to a wolf, his dead body was violated anyway.
So.. yeah :/
I guess it depends a lottt on what RP server you pick, I picked mine because the server is one of the oldest with a nice community, and I find that in general people on RP servers are very friendly and helpful, maybe somewhat older, and less abuse is going on in trade.

Player from Moon Tard here.
Don't go to Goldshire.
Ever.
Don't go there to RP, don't go there to level a new character, don't go there to find a CPA to do your taxes. Just don't.
Yes, there are "roleplayers" in Goldshire, they are morons and just plain awful. Stormwind is just up the road, it, too, is full of morons, but there are fewer dongs.
There is cuttlepenis, though.

The problem is, how does one (Blizzard) go about policing actions like this 24/7?
Easy, stick a grey-haired human NPC named Chris Hansen and a chair in the middle of Goldshire and make him routinely say, "Why don't you have a seat over there..."

Whats a RP server, i never played on one what do you guys do? I play pvp realm and i just do ICC 5 man and tonsof arena, is it the same as you or different?
RP stands for roleplaying. On a roleplaying server, some (not all) of the people there immerse themselves even further into WoW. They create a history, personality, and appearance of their character that is much more detailed than what the game itself provides. They sometimes have addons that let them add this description to their characters. They also roleplay out stories and such, like a group of RPers might go into a dungeon like Deadmines and really act like they're after the infamous VanCleef. They might also select outfits for RPing in cities that match.
On the actual RP servers, there's a naming policy (which is retroactive; you have to report people first before anything's done) that says that you have to have fantasy-like name (so no XxLegolasxX).
Rpers say like.
"how art thou my friend"
"i shall smite thy giant 4u"
"/bow /bow"
etc.
Pay no attention to the troll.

Playing on Lightninghoof RPPVP, its very fun as horde, i've gone to goldshire as a horde and its quite comical. My friend wipserd me there was one of these people (mid-levels of 30) Harassing people and stuff BUT he was flagd... Hehe
Walk in there on my lock and kill him and everyone startd /cheer and /thank on me then I left.
5 mins later I get a wisper "wtf noob you killd me in goldshire while i was cybering" /ignore
===
Anyway I suggest people trying a RPPVP server, the RP is fun, the players are strong, lightninghoof is a server that i love.
