Edit: IMO, its fine by me if a guy plays a girl character.....just so long as he doesnt pretend to be a girl, thats just creepy :(. it's fine....just dont act like the opposite gender while playing the opposite gender plz.
Why is a man pretending to be a woman creepy, but a man pretending to be an orc not?

So, in five pages, I really haven't seen anyone objecting to people playing members of the opposite sex. Unless, in the rare case, where someone is actually putting on a real fiction.
I noticed something..
There are alot of males playing female chars, that is obvious.
Altho i have never met a female who plays a male char. :)
Had one in my old guild in BC. She played a male orc hunter.
My wife's first character was a male Tauren Shaman. (This, because female Tauren are so awful-looking!)
No, I've seen some definite increase in disrespect by some players, if they suddenly find out that a female character really IS female.
But then, this is a male-dominated game.
I work in a female dominated work environment, and I see a similar situation in reverse, in some ways.
It's not all people of a given sex, doing it to all people of the opposite sex. But, it is noticable.
Ah you must work in a kitchen
Nope. I'm a nurse. 95% of my coworkers are women.
As a result, I've had a good look at what it's prolly like -- or used to be like, before ERW -- for women in other workplaces.

What is the deal with gender roles in America? How did a culture once so idealistic become obsessed with wongs in the most medieval way? Like, they don't anything else to live for.

actually ya it is creepy, just not as creepy as a person pretending to be the opposite gender, unless of course its roleplay. roleplay is different though i think.
its just dont go too far with it :)
What do you mean, unless? It
is
roleplay.

You're just applying your own social qualms as universals. There is objectively nothing that makes roleplaying a woman any more "creepy" than roleplaying an orc. Yet you want to make it an objective standard.

What I'm trying to say is, don't just tolerate every single thing, there are some things that are just plain sick and wrong. If they ain't bugging me, I ain't bugging them, let live and let be.

i'm sorry, i was raised up to be normal
Everyone is. What's considered normal differs.
a guy roleplaying that he is a woman is just.....disturbing.
It's an identity issue, gender identity. People who follow different rules for what identifies them as male/female confuse you on a very fundamental level. I personally feel pretty creeped out watching men kiss, but I blame that on myself, not them. They're not hurting anyone.
I think you are the type of person who thinks that he/she has to tolerate everyone, no matter how screwed up and wrong it is, well, there are just some things that are wrong, and that I don't really want to tolerate.
Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? The idea is that you accept everyone, as long as what they're doing isn't hurting anyone. Not that you accept everything period.
The problem occurs when different social conventions meet, because people feel hurt for reasons that others can't understand at all.
Plz do not tell me you do not see anything messed up about that.
From where you're coming from (rhetorically), of course it's messed up. Where I'm coming from, why would I care in the slightest?

Let's be fair, Adamsm, and say 'To you' instead. He is certainly not alone in his perception.

the guy roleplaying as the hot elf chick, on the other hand. probably has some emotional issues and I wont go into it any further than that.
A guy who can't bring himself to roleplay a girl
probably
has emotional issues.
See, I can play the game too :P
I'm sorry, it's wrong and I don't want to tolerate it. That's just how it is. Lets just leave it at that plz :).
"I'm right, you're wrong, let's leave it at that"? What? That's not how you end an argument.

wait what when did i say you were wrong? i just said i think its wrong and to leave it at that
My argument: It's not wrong
Your argument: It is wrong.
So for you to say "It's wrong, leave it at that," you're saying that your argument is right and that mine is wrong.
telling me I have emotional issues because I can't bring myself to roleplay as a girl? ok then.....well I think I'll just leave this thread because I think you have some problems......um, I just don't know what to say to that. I just, I dunno I have no idea.
Exactly it's just as
stupid
as saying someone has emotional issues because they roleplay girls.
alright, i'm going to go because you are taking it way too personally which tells me you have some personal issues with yourself you haven't faced....
I don't take you personally at all. You're the one who thinks it's an emotional problem, not me.
