Well, back to the original thing. I'm cool with macros, but being a little nicer, sounding like "hey I'm cool" will help you out. As for the gear thing, I'd suggest not macroing it. Or macro it separately so you can do it later, look like you've typed it, maybe only use it when instances actually have something you need?
This is my tanking macro, part one:
/p Hi, I'm Cantras and I'll be your tank today. Few quick things: 1) Skull dies first. Sometimes it's a threat thing, mostly it's because that mob's the major baddie.
/p 2) If you haven't been here before, speak up. I won't laugh, I'm really nice. :)
People targeting random #$%^ and getting killed is my main pet peeve, and I'm willing to explain things if people need it but otherwise I don't need to spend the time.
part two, which I'll skip if I'm not up for a second instance:
/p 3) I love post-mortems. If you hang around at the end and talk about what went well and what could have gone better, I'll queue with you again if you'd like.
/p Hey, tank queue is instant, so even talking is faster than waiting for the LFG DPS queue.
It frustrates me that there's not really a good time to say "hey so and so, do this" or "hey, could you not do that" when it's not a vitally bad thing, and the people saying "gogogo" are unlikely to listen anyway. So I reward people who are willing to take a minute and have me say "Look, you will do so much better dps if you attack from behind" and "guys, there were times when you were going to town on an unmarked target, while the skull target just kept healing and erasing your work." And they get better! And they get to tell me their thoughts on my tanking, which is generally good though sometimes they want more aoe threat output. I like the teaching moments. If we had more teaching moments, I wouldn't have so many people attacking random targets or aoeing single targets or whatever.
On that character, I have everything I need from heroics. On other characters, if someone needs it more, they can have it. It'll drop again.

I was tanking the other night and we ran pos with 2 guildies so one of them could get the caster weapon.
Hell the other clothie not in our guild won it. What did I say GRATS
F man you ain't the only person in the group. I don't like to see someone roll need offspec against a spec and especially if they don't ask.
Of a pally roll need on something that he might spec into if he gets the eq.
I think the worst thing that could have happened is all 3 of us need on it and then give it to our friend.
Not sure if you could do that but it would be pure BS

I would drop a run in a heart beat if people ninja offspec loot over a tank or healer MS upgrade.
This. In fact, not just tank/healer gear but if anyone is rolling need on offspec items without checking that noone needs for mainspec first, I'm out of there.

Hey HSR :)
Just to clear a small point up I think the guy you're having this argument with would rather run a 1hr queue in order to ensure he gets his gear fairly, rather than 40 minutes with a group who ninjas and so on.
Etc.
:)
The problem is that rolling on dps gear as tank (and tank gear as dps) is INTENDED via the LFD feature.
The ONLY way to ensure you get the drop is to go with guildies/friends.
As already mentioned, the official stance is that anyone that can hit need when the shiny pixels drop... has every right to do so.

/p Hi everyone, I'm a very professional player and I never hold up a group, whether I'm on my tank or healer alts. I'm able to hold aggro on many mobs, and can even handle ninja pulls! If I'm even at 2% mana, I can keep a tank up, so just do what you do. A++

I'd certainly beg to differ. I believe that the LFD feature was implemented with the intention of faster runs, faster triumph/frost badges and certainly faster gearing up of
your current spec.
I have NEVER been in a run where someone has needed on the offspec without first asking if that's ok. It's an accepted thing now, and if you're not doing it then for god's sake you're one of the few ;)
Oh. And yes, of course you can. Of course you can also ninja or whatever because the loot isn't
'yours
' per se. But I can also tank, then drop all threat, wiping everyone else. That'd $%^& you off wouldn't it?
(That's a comment for all the smart asses who think ninja'ing is justifiable, because it isn't 'illegal' to do so. Wait until it happens to you bud...)
Then why did they set loot to need before greed?

This is utterly annoying i WILL admit... but most annoying is the 5g frozen orb ninja rollers. i dont care about the 5g orbs but its the ninjas that go 'ALL GREED ORB' then they go and need and leave straight after.. haha its soo funny
