Took up mining & skinning on my first ever character.
Didn't know anything about the AH or Smelting, so sold stacks of Ores & Leather to vendors. Did this all the way up to mithril, big "Oh dear" moment when my mate realised and explained how much Ores were worth :P

After over 5 years of UO and a couple years of DAOC I found Wow to be extremely easy November 2004.

With my first paladin:
I didn't realize that once you started attacking a target you didn't have to keep hitting "attack" so I practically broke my "1" key leveling from 1-5. it didn't help matters that I thought the faster i hit the attack key, the faster I would actually attack... didn't see that "weapon speed" business...
I also refreshed my Seal of Righteousness every time i hit because I thought it wore off.
I also refreshed my Seal of Righteousness every time I judged... But that's because that's how it was for paladins! Man i've been playing this game too long!
catch: u 1 eye

on my first char i (was a dwarf pally):
-spent my money or crappy vendor gear
-tried to get from ironforge to darnassus because my friend wanted me to go there because he said quests were more fun
then i made a druid char and i:
-i got herbalism and alchemy and sometime i got so sidetracked levelling my profs that i would forget to level my char and end up not being able to get profs higher or get into higher level zones
-tried to attack a level 80 as they had a skull instead of a level number and got rewarded with being shot between the eyes (they were a hunter), luckily a friend of my friend in wow was level 70 (this was in tbc) and came and killed the hunter
-thought that as soon your underwater breath runs out you die instantly
-thought that cat form was a casting form
-mistook some level 80 druid in tree of life form for a treant in ashenvale and attacked only to find out it was a druid
-thought that killing critters would get me xp

WoW is my first MMO ever, please bare that in mind: I put together that when someone said "PST" it meant to whisper them. What I didn't know was that PST meant Please Send Tell....I thought it meant "psssstt", like what you'd say to get someone's attention before you "whispered" them.
Same here
Also:
I thought I needed a lot of strength gear (as a hunter)
Later, heard a priest say spirit was important for not running out of mana, and so I tried to get a lot of spirit as well
Asked "whats that?" when someone asked if I wanted to run Gnomergon. When they said "its an instance" I asked "whats an instance?"
Leveled in the slow as death Nelf area, since it is where I was led to after the Draenei starting area
Vendored my greens. (In my defense, my bf who had 3 level 70s (this was BC) told me to)
Heard "Azure watch is under attack" in local defense, and started attacking the blood elf there. I didnt know he was another player, I just thought it was some sort of event that happened periodically. I also didn't know that a skull was a bad, bad thing to attack.
Tried to level as marksman, mostly, but with a spec that was really across the board
Made friends with a warrior, also a noob, and some other noobs, and tried to run sunken temple. None of us knew that warriors were supposed to use shields when they tanked, since none of the other classes in the group (hunter, myself, priest, another hunter and a druid) could use shields.
Allowed my bf to convince me to sell the Hurricane epic bow that was the one and only epic drop I got while leveling. I only got 150g for it (less than 25% of the gold my bf had given me to start out) and cried for a while because I wanted it back so badly.
Edit: left "growl" on on my pet till the tank almost kicked me in tanaris, I didnt know I could take it off!

My first was a mage.
...I Saved everything I found regardless if it sold for 1 copper or not thinking I could be rich.
...I sat for an hour running through Orgrimmar before realizing I could ask guards for directions.
...I bought anything from a vendor that was better then mine...even though.. it was from a vendor
...I tried selling my greys and whites on the AH hoping to make a awesome profit.
...I put talent points in all three trees thinking I could be the uber mage....yea..71 point limit X_X
...I got challenged to a duel and before I paid any attention I accepted... to be raped by a level 80...
...Thought when my armor was red it meant I was outleveling it and needed to find better armor.
