I won both my games as support today. It's safe to say it's stronk. The money I made is insane.
Also Dunkmaster Yi seems to be a thing too.

Played a ranked game today as Caitlyn with a Nami support. It went much the same way ours did last night, except I bought relic too. Double relic bot lane is possibly the most retarded thing ever, just as an fyi. You and I can play a game later tonight for proof :P
Edit: I also have an 83% winrate with Caitlyn in ranked. I should probably play her more.

GD is making it sound like a much bigger deal that it really is, I think.

You haven't even delved deep enough into the gameplay at 1 month to give a comprehensive analysis of League.
Mainly because it's always changing.

what a ^&*!ing %^&*-show. Hopefully there will be enough uproar to stop this from happening.

Pretty much this. Probably more of a crime for me since I had prior MOBA experience.

Can Riot do that though?
I'm going to assume yes b/c it's their game but I'm not sure on the technicalities.

I dunno, people always seem so keen on e-sports being given the same privilege as more traditional sports, and this is just something that comes with the territory. I'm not terribly surprised.

I'm 100% sure that professional sports players are allowed to play other sports in their free time.

That's a very poor rebuttal. They are not being restricted from playing other games; they are being restricted from streaming other games. Riot pays them to be the public face of their game. How is it not reasonable that they would want to contractually obligate the people they are paying to promote their game to not promote other games the same way? Like it or not, it's not this infringement of rights that the internet wants to make it out to be.

That's where the line begins to blur. Streaming could be interpreted as recreational time as well. I mean it is a strong basis for their livelihood and there is something on the line in terms of player status, but it's also technically recreational activity. This also doesn't stop a LCS player from Let's Playing (from what I can tell) or pre-recording footage and uploading to Youtube or the like.
But aside from that, I'm not even a fan of the comparison between sports and e-sports here. E-sports should really be its own thing and common sense dictates that unless e-sports players begin getting larger income, their livelihood, such as their streaming, should be damaged in the realistically smallest way possible to ensure said players can retain that livelihood. As you can imagine, this change is not exactly conducive to that because players will tune out of streams with players stuck in their queues (due to the inevitable pitfalls of matchmaking). Furthermore, while the activity of adjacent playing does draw attention to other games, players will generally come and stay for the League in the long run.
What I conclude from this, then, is Riot will lose in this deal due to, as I mentioned above, the negative PR. The games played adjacent to the stream don't exactly draw a lot of the playerbase away to the point it starts hurting Riot financially and the fact players play games adjacent to League of Legends on their stream proves that in itself. It's also a rather petty move, especially given the selective targeting (dat Blizzard target blocking doe) - it feels like (unnecessary) censorship and restrictions are clamped on when I feel that the should be gaming industry working in a more conducive manner, which is more beneficial overall.
Or I'm just rambling.

The fact of the matter is that Riot is well within their rights to require something like this in their contract, and they have provided fair reasons for doing so. You or anyone might dislike the restriction or might think it will have negative implications in the longterm. That's fine. I dislike certain clauses in my employment contract too. Welcome to the real world of employment, League players! My company is paying me money to do and not do the things in my contract, and I agreed to it, just like Riot is paying them to do. The whole "infringing rights" and "censorship" uproar is kind of silly.

Seems like a decent recovery, though I want to know where that whole "sponsorship" thing is coming from.

I'll bite.
Two words: Common sense. (Also for the record, I make sure to read written contracts in their fullest to ensure there isn't anything fishy - legal or not.)
