I think a lot of people forget that what largely contributed to the success of wow was how it was able to entice casual players. Before wow you had games like Everquest and FFXI. All of these games were huge grinds and appealed only to the hardcore online gamer. Then comes wow and shatters that platform by making a mmo that well... you know the rest. Since then Blizz has been fine tuning this aspect about wow - catering to casuals and making it easier to get gear.
And hey, why not? True enough, epics don't hold the same meaning that they once did but the way I see it they don't have to anymore. Look at Blizz's other huge success - D2. That game can be played start to finish with one hand easily yet it remains to this day a popular game to play. I think Blizz is smart by taking this road. The game has saturated and evolved to a point where it needs to do this in order to survive or it will lose a lot of its customer base. As for hardcore raiders, you can still do your thing without being hindered. I've done 40 mans, it's not like we didn't have poor raiders back then either.

Its the end of the line of an expansion. Blizzard already handed out too much holiday-loot (imho) and made earlier content obsolete in 3.2 with conq badges and toc5+ toc5h. What where they suppose to do? make heroics drop emblems of heroism again?
Too late to do something about, so just keeping the same track throughout the entire expansion.
Ill bet ya 100gold that we wont see the same in cataclysm. Sorry for poor English.

Honestly, I rather don't understand what all the complaining is about. Sure, I am casual NOW but I had been very hardcore for years (my guild downed KT a couple months before BC, not that that matters now but just giving you the general idea). I would not be playing WoW in this day and age if it was still as time consuming as it was back then.
I was in college then, I had all the time in the world to raid almost every night of the week and spend a couple hours a day farming mana potions, shadow/frost/fire/nature protection potions, stuff for frost resist gear for Sapph etc. It was very difficult to keep up with the high end raiding if you had a family, a job and social responsibilities. I am actually satisfied with most of the changes in the game. There is still content for those who want to be challenged. Pretty sure most people who do the hardest level content aren't the ones obssessively posting about emblem changes for 232 gear on wowhead forums.
I said it before and I will say it again: do not call yourself "hardcore" if you just farmed Ulduar, ToC regular modes. That is not hardcore, it barely requires you to be alive, it takes little to no skill and it is not a challenge even to the more casual guilds. On most servers even pugs can clear ToC25 and on some even down bosses in ToGC25 and clear ToGC10. And even that gear is still off-limits to the people farming emblems from heroics and buying gear now. Most of the tier stuff they can buy is ilvl 232, the emblem pieces that are 245 aren't even that good with a few exceptions.
I am convinced that most people who are upset by this change are actually the ones whose guilds do not do hard modes, who have average gear and are upset over other people even trying to catch up. They are mediocre players and mediocre people. Their only ace in the hole was their gear for a couple months. The true hardcores are too busy doing challenging content and getting shiny HM loot to care that someone is buying t9.
