So if you don't believe in Jesus being a god, no matter how good you are god won't accept you even though he is all forgiving?I refuse to believe god can be that harsh on mankind, who he created with flaws he knew.
The whole point is that God has given us many chances to accept Him, but if we ignore Him, then He must turn as away eventually. It all hinges upon free will.
If you're a guy that ignores laws all your life and is in and out of prison, if after many years of crime you are convicted and sentenced to death, you must pay the price. You've had countless opportunities to shape up and change, but you ignored the law and continued to commit crimes. You can't tell the judge at your trial that you never knew that you were breaking laws because people have told you so all your life, you just ignored them.
God has given you choice. It's your choice to believe Him or not.
Also can you answer my question on Lucifer , i really want to know.
Sorry, I must have missed that question, what was it?
And how does a sin committed by hawwah , eve, mean we will go to hell , I though it was just used to prove man had faults and had to be tested.
No, God made us with free will. Either Adam and Eve could follow God in perfection or they could choose their own path. They were seduced by the serpent and thus sinned, eating from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Thereby, sin entered into the world. Then, think of sin as a disease or fault in the gene pool. Since all people come from Adam and eve, we all are born into sin.

Where will all these good people that don't believe in God go if they will not join you in heaven?
Purgatory? Hell? Somewhere else?
Hell. I for one do not believe that there is a Purgatory. The Bible mentions only Heaven and hell and it specifically says that all who do not believe will be cast in to the eternal lake of fire on the day of judgment.
Yet 'bad' Christians will be allowed into heaven just because they believe in God?
Because when they accept Jesus into their hearts they are forgiven for all past, present and future sins.
To me (and I may have got the wrong end of the stick), it seems to be a great contradiction, that God has given us free will, and therefore we can choose to believe in God, or not, yet if we choose not to, even if you lead what would be a 'good' life, you go to hell (?)- seems to be a 'punishment' for not believing
It's not that God is punishing you per-se. He would have loved if you had accepted him, except you had your chances and you ignored them, so you have to go to Hell. If God let un-perfect people into Heaven than it would no longer be perfect.

I know one should believe in god , but what if one believe in god but not in that Jesus is god.Christians believe that there is only on true God.
How did Lucifer descend.
He became jealous of God and wanted to become the ruler of heaven. God kicked him and his followers out of heaven and they became the devil and his demons.
A better comparison would be someone who follows the laws but a different president , or in Christianity's case a certain aspect of the president.I'm a little confused by waht you're trying to say here. Would you mind rephrasing it please?
So believing in Jesus means that no matter how bad you are you are assured heaven , but non-Christians won't go to heaven, no matter what?
Correct, but like I've said before; a true believer won't just accept God so he won't suffer when he dies. A true beliver will become "born again" and will try to become "truly dead to sin".
And so we are born with the ability to sin, or we are born sinners?
Both. We are born as sinners that have the ability to sin.

Ok, first of all i'll start off by saying I am an Agnostic, this is just curiosity.
If God is real, why is there so many religions? I know that people say that God lets us make our own choices etc.. but surely it would be beneficial to the entire world if God appears in one way or another and assured us of one religion for us all to follow.
I think this would be helpful as, many of the wars that have happened, are happening, and will happen have roots in Religion. Whereas if we all followed one Religion then that would be one less reason for there to be wars. I have thought about it and can't see a reason why this wouldn't be a benefit to our world.
To start off, Honey, there are so many different types of religion because humanity is diverse. A religion grows from the culture and climate that it was founded in. So, the Christian faith of Europe and the Hindu following of Krishna, although very similar on the outside, have completely different methodology.
As for a
One World Religion
, that takes away from the human experience. It would make everyone the same bland flavor of person. Yes, it would remove a lot of strife, but it would take away the very spark of choice and freedom. Can you imagine a world where everyone had the same thoughts about the world? There could be no true expressions of art or games such as World of Warcraft, because people would be striving to be that same. Try running a raid with all warlocks and you'll understand the analogy.

Thank you Asylu for responding to the OP.
The reason why I didn't post this in the religion debate was that I thought that was a debate about Atheism Vs Religion.
Thanks for all the comments, this is the first time I've checked it out since I posted it before I went to school, so I'm not really up to date on what arguments it has branched out into :S.
Asylu, except trying to eventually reach heaven isn't the same as running a raid, just because everyone believed in the same religion wouldn't make everyone bland :L So all Christians are bland, yet life only gets interesting when they discover people of other faiths? And the same for all Muslims etc.?
I for one would prefer everyone to be the same religion and avoid this 'Strife' as you delightfully put the death of Billions of humans. For a life without as much freedom is surely worth it when you reach the ultimate heaven.

Sorry, I went to bed, so late response!
Yes I have sinned, but that doesn't take my salvation away. Here's an analogy.
Just as the christian is encouraged to leave everything and take up the cross, so too did Peter abandon his previous life and follow Jesus. Later in life, Peter denied Jesus three times. Afterwords, Jesus
still forgave him
. Peter had sinned, but Jesus didn't tell Peter to go away and come back later, he welcomed him back!
The new nature as I few it is the nature of being free from the burden of sin. Yes we still sin, but the end result of sin will not affect us. And we are also better able to recognize sin for what it is and combat it due to the Holy Spirit.
I was sleeping too :P
Yeah I know what you mean...I brought you in, but it was directed @ Mediator, who said you can't sin.

Yes I would. Even for you. I would hope that whoever I died for (if they were unsaved) would be touched by my example of selfless giving and come to Christ.
I can say with reasonable confidence you would not.
I suppose it comes with the territory, but people making fantastical claims because they're anonymous is getting kind of old.

....
Discussing religion is pointless.
All anyone can ever bring up is Jesus.
There is more to religion than Christianity.
And I am done with trying to speak to people when the argument that they retreat to is "Because God said so".

Yes, due to the range at which we reside from each other it would be physically impossible, however, if I were next to you and someone was pointing a gun at your face, I would do my best to help save you.
I'm not saying this as Queggy, I'm saying it as me. The man behind the keyboard. You can tell me all you want that I won't and I'm just making big statements because I'll never have to fulfill them, but it's not true. Please. Believe me.

Evil = lack of good.
Aquinas would disagree. I can't believe you would argue for free will and
then
argue against Aquinas' definition of evil, as it's difficult to show that we have free will under a God without resorting to Aquinas' argument.
Unless there is another argument for free will under a single God? I'd love to hear/read it. =)

lolwut?
I-48.1 Whether evil is a nature?
Therefore it must be that by the name of evil is signified the absence of good.

It's all good.
And thank you for being the first person to argue against me nicely today. Sorry if my answer was a bit flippant, I'm a bit fed up at the moment :P

That said,
is
there another argument for the existence of free will under God? I
would
be interested in reading it.

Well, I know Augustine was actually the preeminent defender of free will, well before Thomas. I don't know his arguments off the top of my head.

I am Jewish and I believe I will go to heaven but not just because I am Jewish, in my opinion I believe that religion is a tool to help man follow a good path, almost every religion pretty much says to be a good person and dont kill people/be a dbag and therefore those who are good people are fine. God wouldnt keep a man out of heaven because, as a random example, he was born somehow on an island and never ever heard of any sort of religion and was just a good person.
PS I love being Jewish :)
