been having this trouble for a while now
i just cannot decide between elemental or enhancement
both have benefits and flaws
i love elemental its easy to play decent dps(at least with that crappy gear i have) and has the benefit of being a ranged class which is a + on alot of bosses not to mention those lovely lava burst crits
then there is enhancement i really love it harder to play love dual wield love the wolves and love the play style
but hate the fact i have to share loot with hunter which my server has a crapload of and that melee spots in a raid or generally well fought for since a raid with a lot of melee is sometimes not possible and a raid with all ranged will always be possible(onyxia etc)
so here i come to you to ask or shine some light on what spec you have and why you are drawn to it
really trie to convince me to a spec like your selling it since i just have no idea which to keep with my resto spec so far both of em are tied to fun factor

Enhance is not harder to play then Elemental. They are both very, very easy specs. Just get an addon that can show you Maelstrom Weapon procs.
Elemental dps does not scale well. That means you will do awesome dps in crap gear but you will do not that much better dps in high end gear. Enhancement on the other hand scales much better - you start out worse but as your gear improves you will at some point be better then elemental.
As far as raid buffs are concerned I'd prefer enhance. AP like a blood DK, haste like a frost DK, a unique str/agil boost and very competetive dps. Elemental on the other hand has only one unique raid buff, Totem of Wrath, and in case you are running with well geared Warlocks it will be far inferior to their Demonic Pact (in case they can be persuaded to go demonology which is often hard to do).
On the other hand as you said yourself being ranged has a lot of advantages. You lose less dps time on movement, you get the "pretty" view on the fight and all that.
In the end you should just decide what kind of style of play you prefer. Do you want to stand back and cast stuff or do you want to hit stuff? It's really all about fun.

I couldn't agree more. Choose whichever fits your playstyle best.
No, enhancement is not 'harder' to play than elemental is...however the rotation is more complex.
Your rotation as enhancement would revolve around prioritization.
5 stack maelstrom LB > SS > ES > LL on single target, while keeping wolves up respectively.
it's a bit more complex than
FS > LvB > LB spam. That's basically elemental.

The only thing that's "hard" about enhancement is the fact that you have to stand behind the boss and stand in melee range. If the boss gets moved, you have to follow. Other than that, it's really fun to play enhancement and shifting your spell rotation keeps things interesting.
5 stack maelstrom LB > SS > ES > LL on single target, while keeping wolves up respectively.
^ This, and when you have a break in your rotation, refresh Magma Totem and/or Lightning Shield if needed.

Thanks keeper for posting this. A couple of days ago, I was in the same boat as you. Could not decide. I finally gave in and specced Enhance. It's a lot of fun to play and I cannot wait for the Wolfs. BUT, as I am playing enhance now I am wondering how an enhance Shaman would match up to a Rogue or Warrior or Pallie (outch) pvp wise? I mean, it's nice when Windfury procs but, for me, at least in pve, it doesn't even proc on every fight. What's left is just Stormstrike and Lava Lash (I thinks thats what its called). I can't see myself going up against these above mentioned melee monsters and survive for long. Sure, I got some nice totems but is all of this working well in pvp?
Sorry to ask a completely other question but I thought Id through it in since for me this was one of the factors of deciding which way to go since I love to pvp while I level.
I am also only at lvl 51 and might not have gotten the killer spells yet.

I've retired elemental for now and am giving PvP Enhancement a shot...when facing off with other melee I use my Maelstrom procs for Healing Wave or Hex instead....that usually works....and if you have to CAST it instead, throw down a stoneclaw totem (glyphed) for the shield so they can't hit ya.

Hex
Frost Shock
Frostbrand Weapon
Frozen Power
Earthen Power
Anticipation
Toughness
Grounding Totem
Earthbind Totem
Improved Fire Nova Totem
Glyph of Stoneclaw Totem
Glyph of Hex
Enhancement can be pretty dominating.
