WoW on your Résumé?

No, not a job advertisement or anything like that. :P
I have a period coming up where I'm going to be under pressure to look for a job, and around the point where I was updating my résumé, I got to wondering. Would my experience playing WoW look good on it?
On one hand, you can attribute a lot of skills to raiding or PvP, such as teamwork, leadership, research, sometimes maths, and the ability to handle competitive or stressful situations.
But on the other hand, WoW is a game and is known to be addictive, and employers might think that you're likely to be distracted with the game when you should be doing your job.
So, would you consider mentioning WoW on your résumé worth it?

Admiting you're pretty much addicted to a video game?
Not a good idea

Unless the job you're going for is actually in the VG field I would definitely say leave it off the resume. At best it's irrelevant, and at worst it could reflect badly on you.

Even if you're applying for a VG related field you wouldn't even want to put a specific game experience on it lol...

The only reason you'd mention WoW is if you were applying to Blizzard imo :)

Haha, WoW on resume... well, with my experience of majority of wow players, how THEY do teamwork, lead raids/groups, handle stress situations, show awesome skills... no. Better not.

It's more likely than you think.

Well, maybe I would put the skills gained from WoW on it, like thinking clearly under pressure, team management(if you're a raid leader), but putting WoW itself on it is like signing your own unemployment registry.
Remember, it is wrong to lie on a resume, but it's okay to mention skills you have without it being apparent where they come from.

My mate has recently got a job and he put WoW on his CV. He's the guild master though and so has to oranise a big bunch of people. Afterwards his new boss said he won the job because of experience as a guild master on wow. (his boss plays a little with his son)
I bet being a GM is even better...

Actually, if you go on Blizzard website and look at their job listings?
There are posts of raid manager that might require wow experience. They even stated there "must know how raid works"

It works... move on.... I have proof.
EDIT: In all honesty it depends on the company you are applying to, i mean my geography teacher was interviewing new teachers and he turned one guy away straight away for being a "war gamer".
So, there ARE 2 sides to the argument
Personally I left it out of my CV.

1. Legally, they cannot turn you down because you play WoW.
2. The "standard" WoW experience is not CV-worthy, however GMs/raid leaders of truly exceptional guilds may merit mention if they are going for leadership or motivational jobs. Clearing Naxx and Ony does not make an exceptional guild.
3. Most of what you want to put in your CV is dross, going by the criteria you set by wanting to list your WoW experience, it's better to have three or four great things than 20 naff ones that are clearly filler. The majority of the impression a cv gives is in the first second.

People get hired and not-hired for the weirdest reason.
e.g.
At one university where i worked two people were the final candidates to write a thesis on the liability of aircraft manufacturers for accidents. The one who was rejected was rejected because they had never flown, and the other had. It was felt that for this subject you'd have to have flown at least once.
A lawyer once told me that he'd hired someone because their hobby was mountainclimbing. It showed strength of character and perseverance.I couldn't help wondering if it was a good idea to invest in someone who could be killed anytime he practised his hobby.
During the interview for my current job my hobby of roleplaying games did come up. The interviewer thought that this could be relevant. I didn't and don't see how, but okay.
I would put Wow on my CV as a hobby, but being a gamer carries less of a stigma in the Netherlands than elsewhere.
