I still say it's not as effective as a keyboard/mouse. Combine it with the amount of macro's out there that are keyboard dependant?
I challenge you!
Find me something I can't do with that controller, I'll post a video of me doing it. If you lose, you leave this thread and leave it to the people that do play with a controller.
I'm going to be away until after the weekend on business starting pretty much right after this post so give me time to get back before I prove you wrong. Keep in mind I only have it set up on my 52 Hunter so it has to be something I can actually prove, not like "Use swift flight form, dur."
Time to put your money (pride? ego?) where your mouth is.
I'd love to. That would be a lot of fun I think. With luck, people using controllers for WoW will catch on, and it will be widespread and accepted as a form of playing. It might also rain Buffalo and Strawberries tomorrow. I couldn't imagine playing that way myself, but again, congrats on you stating you've pulled it off.
Me having you make a video of "Do this, do that" is a little impractical however. You've got X buttons on your controller, and a keyboard has 80+ (depending on your keyboard). A controller can only do so much with it's allotment of buttons. It's just math.
He should just do that anyways. He's not adding anything constructive, he's just repetitively bashing the two people in this thread who went though the effort to set up a controller for WoW.
I'm adding plenty. Someone has to be the voice of those that use the keyboard/mouse, as there's two sides to every discussion. You jump the gun in the bashing department by the way. If I was bashing, my comments would be deleted and I'd get a ban. So calm down and have a chocolate milk, then a nap.
Looks like we will have an duel here on the forums, lets just wait for the troll to come and give us an (im)possible task to do.
and CrypTecH, is using your controller on your 80 warlock any harder than with your hunter?
I'm not trolling, Captain Uninformed. I'm stating a fact. Keyboard/Mouse is superior to a controller. If it wasn't, that statement would be reversed. Don't you think? Yes, it's viable. I agree with it being possible. It's just not as practical as the normal method, nor is it as widespread, nor will it be. Just how computer gaming is.

Unfortunately your side of this discussion is entirely contrived to gripe at the OP for asking questions he never actually asked.
'You're adding plenty'? I even went back and re-read your posts. All I could find was you saying things like "You can't play WoW with a joystick", and "WoW + Joystick doesn't mix". You have no real argument here. Neither CrypTecH or de80 ever claimed that this was the best way to play the game. They just wanted to discuss who else does it and what methods they might use. They're comparing notes.
If you still claim you're not a troll, you're either lying or deluded. You've added absolutely nothing of substance and only served to further derail, what was at one point, helpful conversation.
So go ahead and keep burning those straw men. I'm sure they deserve it.

YesterdaysHero, you say you're not being combative or trolling, but I've yet to see anyone agree with you on that front. In this thread you have called people names. You have insinuated that people are children and need some "chocolate milk and a nap." You've stated repeatedly that your way of playing the game is superior in every way to someone who choses to play differently. How is that anything but trolling? You don't need to be spouting curse words to be combative.
No one in this thread has said that using a controller is the superior method for playing the game and that everyone else should do the same. The people that play the game using a keyboard and mouse (guess what, I'm one of those people, just like the vast majority of people) do not need someone to defend them or "be their voice."
You disagree with the people that enjoy using a controller, which is fine. You could have stated so in a
slightly more mature
manner and been on your way. I don't get why you feel the need to stick around and keep repeating the same thing, arguing with anyone that has an opinion contrary to your own, informing them that your way is better. And that's a fact.

Because people over react far to easily and lash out. So instead of following suit, I much prefer to treat them as their acting. Like children. You on the other hand, can convey a point in a very conscise and well proposed manner. For that you get a hug and a sticker.

YesterdaysHero won, i wont fight over the internet.
He has stating a fact and im saying that using a controller isnt WORSE then using a mouse and keyboard and he told me over the internet that it is.
So i just have to leave this topic to him so he can keep repeating the same thing over and over while we that try to make a point is just stomped on down in the mud.
YesterdaysHero is right beacuse he read on the internet that using a controller is 10X worse then using a keyboard and mouse and have never tried it before, therefor he is right and whatever he says is the right thing.
YesterdaysHero, you won, you got the biggest E-Peen, and wastes the most time repeating posts on thousands of words he have written before here. Good luck stroking it!
I don't even know what that means. When you can articulate your writing in a manner that's in the same ball park as Kalisha, then I'll bother sorting out your ramblings.
I would like to see another video of a controller tearing up WoW though. Innovation brings change, and change is good.

This thread is kinda fun to watch. All the arguements makes it a good read.

So getting this thread back on track,
about 12 hours ago I went and picked up a controller for PC from GameStop kind of like OPs, and I've been trying it out, set-up with xpadder.
So far, it's actually a bucket load of fun, a breath of fresh wind from the regular tedious grind with my keyboard, so far it's really interesting.
It's a bit hard atm, remembering all the keybindings/combos (if you could call them that), but once I get a hang of it, I'm sure it'll be even better, not that I'll ever reach the efficiency of a keyboard, but really, this is way more fun, so I don't mind.
Could you tell me more about your setup there CrypTecH?

My love of hugs and stickers is conflicting with my urge to continue arguing.

Have you considered starting a completely new character (at least until you have a better feel for the controller)? That way you're learning and getting used to a few skills at a time, rather than trying to relearn and condense 80 levels worth into one night. I think it would be more intuitive that way, and would most certainly be the approach I'd take.

Yes, I have. I was considering doing so because my friend wanted to reroll new alts with me, so I thought I'd give the controller a try while leveling from scratch. But for now, I'm just playing around with on my rogue, don't wanna touch my shaman's bar settings and keybinds for now. :p

That's the main problem when changing playstyle. It's a huge hassle to switch from something you've developed over a long time and are comfortable with, to something that could possibly be better, but would take getting used to.
Not necessarily saying a controller is better, but I'm speaking in generalities (like switching between clicking and keybinding, for example)

This looks interesting and I might actually try it. Good Job to those who got it working and can do it.
Looks like my Rouge Alt is about to get some playtime..
Show those pale cheeks who's boss.
