I joined a PvE (RP) server because the people that introduced me to WoW were on it. Being my first MMO game, I think it was a bit easier to level from 30-50 in contested areas, only worrying about NPCs killing me. One thing I have seen a fair amount of is cross-faction cooperation, which I suppose goes against the spirit of the game, but it is what it is.
I have yet to experience the "rush" of PvP server play, though I have been subject to Horde hunters trap-flagging me on two occasions (in Southshore and Booty Bay). That was rather irritating, though the irritation was short-lived.
I can see the appeal to both types of servers, but in WoW, as in reality, people will continually find new ways to disagree with one another, and this thread is no exception to that.

I like the people who say "you can just flag yourself for PVP on a PVE server!" Yeah, you can, but that doesn't do anything except open you up to being ganked on a PVE server. The people your level probably won't bother to flag and fight you, and the 70s rolling through the zone for whatever reason will take your being flagged as a challenge.
On a PVP server it's really not uncommon to see 70s pass by low-level characters, despite being permaflagged. They have better things to do. Generally over the course of getting a new character to 70, I get ganked by someone who is more than 9 levels above me about 10 times. That's once every 7 levels on average; well within acceptable levels.

I think I'll add my 2 cents here. I've been on a PvP server ever since I started playing WoW, and I don't regret it at all. I think it makes the game more challenging, you get to experience things that you wouldn't on a PvE server. Despite being a pain to level, and a lot of ganking, I think it's a neat experience. I have 70 Undead Rogue, 70 BE Hunter, and a 61 Paladin. Sure I've been ganked a lot, especially in STV, Un'Goro, and Tanaris, but I think it's what makes this game fun and exciting.

PVP server? Hell yeah. You can kill that sucker farming minerals, leathers, and take over that area etc.
I wish i can kill someone of my own faction sometime when they swoop by and take my mineral viens while I try to clear the area...

Because if you ever decide you want to transfer your little PvE 70 to a PvP server, you'll never be able to do it.
EVER.
Have fun getting the most of your purps in AV.

You know, before I rolled on a PvP server, I never understood why this was such a big deal.
Levelling on an (active) PvP server, you are constantly looking over your shoulder, killing things smarter (so you don't get ganked after the battle), and learn your "OH $%&^" buttons so much better.
And now I know why on a PvE server Arenas are weaker, BGs just a tedious grind, and you'll never know what to do with those free S1 weapons and gear.
P.S. Ganking someone 30 levels below you (unprovoked) is lame.

I don't like PVE.. It's sooo boring. I can live with getting ganked.
I wouldnt agree with you if i werent 70 with epix:) I really hate lowbie gangers.Especally spitting laughing typoz. on the other hand its nice to feel ur in danger at any time:P you must keep @ guard.
Tried my firends char on a pve server, omg thats really so boring:S
Some of you (playes started @ the begining remembers) will remember, there was the Ashenvale natural battlefield:) there werent any BG's in WOW. hehe omg that was so tasty:'( player met in Ashanvale Alliance village. Alliance stayed back of the bridge and horde players other side...then endless fight like hours:) haha missed those old good crap. now ashenvale is a ghost forest:S

Its tough at first but not as bad nowadays I think. Most high level players are in Outlands flying around and doing other things. That or they are in BGs or Arenas most of the time. If you do get ganked, you can always try to move to another area. It's tough at times but you'll be really happy once you hit 70.
Then again, if you don't want to deal with ANY of this you can go back to a normal server. It's personal preference. I've got 2 high lvl characters on a PvP server and its easier the 2nd time when you know what to expect. You sit down and recover (drink/eat) with much more health so you can react if you get ganked. Its just a different playstyle all together.

from what i have read everyone has missed the point, back in the pre BC hell years before that there were no arenas, there was no multi BGs, and even before that there was no BGs! so i u wanted to pvp u did it on a pvp server. sure now days pvp servers and pve are almost the same, but unless u have been ganked and then jumped on ur 70s with 10 friends and camped SS for 2 hours u just dont know what fun is.
