for most of us tailors we have to kill mobs and buy of the auction house for cloth. so i had the idea of something:
Unweave
Carefully unweave the finest threads of a piece of armor and breaking iit down to the very last string, thus Destroying the item. This can create threads and cloth. and some treasures within.

For something like this to be implemented, I would think it would need to be brought into the other crafting professions as well. After all, Leatherworkers either have to kill and skin or buy from the AH to gain most of their raw materials too.

A leatherworker arfter a certain point CAN learn how the leather is put together and in theory could un bond it/ Un sew it. A blacksmith can learn how to take the plates apart and then forge them into bars or other materials. Tailors can learn to unweave Clothing.
That would be really nice to implement. Instead of farming for insane amount of hours just go and get a few high end epics that no one needs and tear them apart. This should also raise the price of Enchanting mats as well because people will now go farming TOC to get the drops to destroythem other than DE them.

No, the problem is that Enchanters will suffer from mat starvation. Of course, it makes more sense for them to disenchant rings, amulets, and trinkets (because those sound a lot more magical than a pair of ).
Don't get me wrong, I personally like the idea. Very much. But in order to be implemented, many things will need to have their drop rates of certain things reduced. Right now leveling professions is based on humanoids dropping a lot of cloth, mineral veins dropping a lot of ore, animals being skinned for a lot of leather, etc. And all the random green drops go to Enchanting. If Blizzard were to introduce your proposed change, they would have to reduce the number of cloth, leather, and ore drops (am I missing a component here?), increase the number of item drops (especially rings and necks), and increase the amount of enchanting materials Enchanters get off them. It's a little complicated...

You can take apart leather armor since it's stitched together and all, and Blacksmiths can salvage metals of all sorts, regardless of the form it's in. All you have to do is melt it down.

The reason I did not mention herbs is because it's a little hard to take an elixir/pigment/glyph and pull the herbs out of it.

Crystals, Shards, Essences, and Dusts are physical manifestations of pure magic. It's absolutely normal for a magical world.

But the proposed idea is something that I have been thinking off for quite some time what with me having levelled 2 tailoring characters. The drop rate for cloth isn't exactly ideal especially when it takes ages to farm a few stacks of <insert cloth type here>. If Blizzard can find a way to implement this without any balance issues, then by all means I agree.
Perhaps the drop rate is larger for me, but I got ten stacks of frostweave just by doing five or six dailies for two days...
