Odd...
I know I am performing near the optimal, and cannot get more than 22-24 as a Horde even on my best days.

I think I've maxed out at 18 trips (36 coins) as horde. The trick is to skip the barrel by the turn-in and stay at max speed. Starting from the guy who gives the quest, you want to head in a straight line to the barrel on the other side of the small hill (jump the rise so you don't get stuck). The second you hit this barrel, you want to aim directly at the goblin who throws the beer to you. When you get within about 10 yards of him, you want to turn and head straight for the barrel at his left. If you do this properly, the goblin will throw the beer to you without you having to run all the way over to him (sometimes it's a little delayed due to travel time, but they do show up eventually. Try not to double back due to lag).
Now that you have the beer, you want to head directly for the apples in front of you (passing it on the left hand side). You can, in theory, skip this barrel, but it's in a straight line to the first barrel you go by and that one MUST be hit both going to and coming back from the goblin, so you're better off just running by the barrel to give yourself less chance of screwing up. From the first barrel you triggered (the one closest to the turn-in goblin excluding the one in his pen) you want to head straight for him. Once you get within about 15 yards you need to jump in the air and spin 180 degrees around. This will allow you to immediately head in the opposite direction when you land. If you do this properly, you'll turn in your beer at about 10 yards away and already be heading back towards the first barrel. This is the really tight part, and even if you're doing it properly, you'll reach the apples with something like 85-95 on your buff.
After that, it's a simple process of repeating that pattern using as straight of lines as possible.
