Bah... Where's Patty when you need him... :P
Reading The Well of Eternity now, and I'm just starting Chapter Two and already I'm not liking Rhonin. It's a shame too, because Knaak isn't a bad writer. He just writes sues.
Here's a sample:
Both were concerned then, for not only had marriage been one so rare in the annals of history, but no one had ever recored a successful human-elven birth.Reallu?
Really?
There was never a successful human-elven birth over the 6000 years the two races knew eachother? Heck, I know it was added in three years after this book, but Arator, the son of Turalyon and Alleria (Vereesa's own sister ffs), was born years before Rhonin and Vereesa got married.
"I don't think you understand, Vereesa.
Twins!
Twins from a mage and and elf!"
But her face continued to radiate pleasure and wonder. "Elves seldom give birth and we very, very rarely give birth to twins, my love! They will be destined for great things!"
Rhonin could not hide his sour expression. "I know. That's what worries me . . ."GAH! Destined for great things you say? Born from the most powerful mage
evar
AND destined for great things? Reminds me of
another Mary Sue I hate
.
Shame on you Knaak. Real heroes should earn their titles as heroes, not just be born with it. Thrall took a life full of beatings before becoming a hero. Turalyon was a young priest with shaky faith. Khadgar was a mage's apprentice who was forcibly aged against his will. Lothar was a simple knight of Stormwind. Durotan was just an ordinary orc with a sound set of morals. These are the heroes people! Not some mary sue secret child of a hero who was born destined for greatness.

If Doomhammer was
just
a hero for the Old Horde, then why does the New Horde worship him? He has a city in his name, A battle flying machine named after him, Thrall's battlecry was "For Doomhammer!", as was Raiders.
I can understand if Turalyon wants to be at peace with the Horde, but I really want him to be at least hostile to them.Because Doomhammer freed them from slavery, helped train their greatest Warchief in history, and died fighting for their freedom. I don't want Turalyon to be hostile. Wary is fine, but not hostile. I'm sick of this constant hatred between sides for no good reason.
Edit: Arator wasn't born on Draenor. And lol at "Daylight Savings Time of the Dragon." I'm sure that will be followed by "Tea Time of the Dragon" and "Bedtime of the Dragon."

I just gave you the quotes. He doesn't hate the Horde, not even the Old Horde. He doesn't have to be neutral, just less "destroy all orcs" than Varian.
And Arator himself says he was born on Azeroth.
I was only an infant when my father was deployed to this wasteland.

Well, Thrall's supposedly (possibly) going to be neutral in Cataclysm.
And he says he was an infant
when
his father was deployed to Outland. I figure he was born of Turalyon and Alleria's "special night" before they started hating eachother. It's possible Alleria abandoned him, as is custom for mothers of half-elves.

There's the info on him.

He would have been born before they went through the portal, he's in his 20's after all, and he was part of that first group through the reopened portal.

And it doesn't say she never stopped fighting. There's basically a 1-2 year gap between ToD and BtDP in which we know almost nothing of what Alleria did or didn't do.

They didn't take their child with them. I think Alleria abandoned him, as many elf mother will do to half-elf children.
She may have hunted orcs for most of the gap, but I can see her taking a few months off for maternity leave.

Dark, he's in his 20's..... how does that work, to only be there for the 5-10 year point, he wasn't sent back through the portal before it was sealed for good. He would have been on Azeroth, for all we know, they did the horizontal mambo during Tides of Darkness.

Not to mention Danath and Malgor's comments:
Father Malgor Devidicus says: By the Light! So this is why you look familiar. Is this fate? Destiny, perhaps? Arator, your father and I were the best of friends. It is I who kept him in good health... Oh the battles we fought... And...If Arator was born on Draenor, wouldn't Malgor know who Arator was already?
Force Commander Danath Trollbane says: As I live and breathe! "Little" Arator? Is that you?Again, it seems Danath hasn't seen Arator since he was just a baby, or at least very little.

I'm curious to find out how that came up.
Also, remember:
This isn't so much a debate thread, its a general questions thread, so keep any possible name-calling to a minimum.

It's a "dicussion" thread, and that's what we're doing. And I do my best to never resort to name calling. ;)

They could have seen him before they went through the Portal? There's lots of stuff the book leaves out, that is there in the game, and probably in the RPG guides as well.
