Regarding downvoting...

It seems like there are a handful of retards who think it's hilarious to downvote every single comment, whether it's relevant or useful or not. It'd be nice if one or both of two changes could occur to mitigate this:
1. Change the "hidden comment" threshold to at least -3, if not as low as say -5. That way useful comments wouldn't end up so immediately hidden; on the other hand, stupid comments would still probably end up buried very quickly.
Or, better yet,
2. Implement a maximum number of downvotes per minute - or hour, or day, but per minute seems like the best choice for ensuring that legitimate downvoting could still take place as necessary, while trolls would be forced to wait between downvotes.
Just my 2c.

I gather you are offended by people downvoting your comments? I would like to point out that Cored Direbrew's page is not the place to
discuss
stamina vs. avoidance
. The fact that other people engage in discussions on the Comments pages should not be a green light for you to join them - especially when the discussions are only mildly related to the page. This being said, I did not find your comments especially helpful, insightful, or funny. Not saying they are
bad
comments, but they didn't look like something I would like to see first when I click the "Highest rating first" filter. Please don't take as an offense.
On a side note, how do you know that there is a group of "retards" that roam the comments and downvote everything, since they have nothing better to do?

The forums are the place for discussions. The comments are a place for factual information. You should be able to read your comment and have it make sense without the context of other posts.
This
may provide some tips for making comments likely to stick. The comment ratings are intentionally designed to be easy to rate down to ensure only the best and factual comments stick.

No, I'm not referring to my comments. I mean, yes, it's true that I'm not
especially
thrilled when my comment get downvoted; but I'm referring to a trend I've seen overall, which includes many comments that range in from fairly to very useful ending up at a -2 or so rating. And it's usually several comments in a row like say the most recent five to ten - that are at that -1 or -2 rating, regardless of their content.
So no, I'm not
offended
per se by my comments being downvoted, but more to the point, my own comments were not why I made this thread.
Also, I do believe that I said that there "seemed to be" a handful of retards going around downvoting things - I certainly didn't flatly posit their existence. ;)
That all said, point taken as far as comments being distinguishable from comment_ary_, which is something that I will admit I did not realize, and will be aware of in the future. (But, again, this is tangential to the point I was trying to make.)

Usually, when it's the most recent (in the cases where I downrate), it's a case where the commenter didn't read the comments on the previous pages and posted duplicate information, or they otherwise violate the "this" link in Gryphon's post.

Want an example of idiocy?

I don't know how the poster i'm replying to got that much "+" on their absolutely ridiculous post, but my previous comment to his reply was downrated (I humbly remade it a minute ago to stay in thread).

That's because the above post was correct at the time it was made, whereas your comment is answering to an outdated comment.
edit: I have no way to confirm it was true, but iirc, it didn't have the requirement during that time.

Well then, tell me why outdated and incorrect comment must remain it's score, while correct updates get downranked?
I downrated the post and posted an explanation to my rate, pointing out the relevant string for those who would be reading comments to see in clear where's the poster above me is not right.
This has nothing to do with "a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..." - it DOES NOT RIGHT NOW. Period.

I don't see why you're so angry after calling someone else's actions idiotic.
This is why Wowhead implemented the filter by patch function, it's not perfect, but it gets the job done.
Please calm down and return afterwards.

Report comments that are outdated.

Gryphon is correct. This is a common problem—old comments are valuable for an extended period of time, and are rated up repeatedly until they have a +50 score or some such. Then a patch comes along and makes them irrelevant. It's difficult for users to rate the post down repeatedly, since the score is so high, but moderators have the ability to fix it—as long as the post is reported, using the "Report" button.

Currently, I see downvoting more as a technique for peeing at someone's leg.
Before I post I always think of a useful comment and gather information, calculate, research. Some people appreciate that by upvoting. But some others simply downvote.
And then
they visit my profile, pick out a comment I posted to a rather boring BC recipe with some hints for farming it, which they normally would never have discovered… and downvote that too.
Of course I get no replies what's wrong with my comments – probably because there's nothing wrong. :D
PS: I don't downvote even outdated comments because I know they were useful once and its interesting to see what has changed since then, or why item x was so overpowered back then. Normally, people should see if they are outdated by the version tag and are encouraged to write an updated comment.

You should refrain from responding to threads that are over 2 years old. Especially when the topic you are responding to is currently undergoing changes and has various other threads floating on the first page.
Even if this wasn't the case, you should create a new thread, instead of bumping one this old, as it causes confusion.

My fresh comments are also being downvoted by -2 rating, even though they're pretty much immaculate. Not much I can do about that, now is there.

I'm going to lock this because if you have feedback regarding comment rating there are current threads in which you can do it. Bringing this old thread back is only likely to confuse matters.
